Issues? We don′t need any issues! We don′t have to talk about issues! Now I know why Joe Biden is thinking about running for president. He must have heard about the #PresidentialSelfieGirls and Joe wants in on the act! This morning while reviewing the day′s headlines for a topic to write about, I saw a piece from The Washington Post about two teenage girls whom are collecting and posting selfies of themselves with 2016 candidates. Addy and Emma Nozell, 17 and 15 respectively, have a Twitter account @PrezSelfieGirls. They are the Presidential Selfie Girls. Armed with only a smart phone, they are exploring a whole new dimension in American politics.
And it seems to be working! The two young ladies have posed with 19 of the 2016 presidential candidates already. They even posed for a selfie with Dr. Ben Carson, despite his ′anti-selfie′ policy. Carson has even called the teens ″dangerous″ and ″narcissistic″. The Nozells have become famous, making news segments on CNN, CBS, ABC, and even MTV! Along with the Washington Post, they have also been featured by the New York Times and US News & World Report. Not bad work if you can find it.
The selfie-gals live in New Hampshire, so getting access to candidates is fairly easy. They are shy a few candidates still. At the time of the article, they lacked a selfie with Bernie Sanders, whom they hope to take later that day. Jim Webb, Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz and Mike Huckabee are also on their agenda. They say that Rick Perry was the only candidate they have met who did not even know what a selfie was. I wonder if he was medicated at the time?
So this is how the 2016 presidential campaign is shaping up. How many people are going to rallies to actually listen to candidates and their stand of the issues? How many are just going to take selfies or other pictures just to post on social media in order to feed their own egos and audiences? So what do you think about the #PresidentialSelfieGirls? Are they just harmless teenagers out on a lark? Or do the @PrezSelfieGirls, Addy and Emma Nozell, represent the decline of Western Civilization? They are Democrats, by the way, as one of their family members is a volunteer for the Hillary Clinton campaign. Is the future of America brighter or darker because of them and others whom live and die for social media?
