In a 6-3 decision Thursday, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of Barack Obama and his Affordable Care Act. Specifically, the issue was over Obamacare subsidies which some 8.7 million people receive out of the 10.2 million whom have signed up with the ACA. Chief Justice John Roberts wrote the majority opinion, citing that ″Congress passed the Affordable Care Act to improve health insurance markets, not destroy them.″ At stake was subsidies for some 6.4 million who signed up for Obamacare in states that did not have exchanges. The initial lawsuit was brought concerning the definition of one, four-word passage in the ACA law, ″established by the state″. Attorney Generals from some 26 states regarded this phrase as meaning that people would only get subsidies in those states which created exchanges. They said that this makes the ACA unconstitutional as it does not treat everyone equally under the law. But the court ruled in favor of the IRS interpretation of the law, allowing anyone to get a subsidy anywhere.

That the Supreme Court ruled this way is not surprising. They have been bullied by the Obama White House ever since they ruled in favor of the Citizens United case concerning campaign financing. Oddly enough, Obama has been able to raise hundreds of millions of dollars thanks to that ruling. What the heck, he lied about only taking public financing when he ran for president in 2008. Just as he lied over and over again about the ACA.

Anyone with half a brain has known that the Supreme Court was going to take a dive on Obamacare. The only way the law will ever be repealed is if we have a real batch of Conservatives in charge of the White House and both wings of Capitol Hill. Then we might actually get a health care law which really does improve the insurance markets and make it affordable. So don′t despair. This is nothing to get excited about. Just keep your head down and eyes focused on 2016. If we blow that, then its time to panic!
