The Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL, is claiming responsibility for the Garland, Texas shooting attack Sunday. Two gunmen, Elton Simpson, 31, and Nadir Soofi, 34, traveled from their home in Phoenix, Arizona to perform an act of terrorism against a free-speech event held near Dallas. The event was a Prophet Mohammed, blessings and peace be upon him, cartoon contest held by the American Freedom Defense Initiative, led by Pamela Geller. The two jihadis posted their intent on social media, including on Twitter. A security guard was wounded by the terrorists in the ankle before both both criminals were killed by a Garland police officer. Both gunmen were heavily armed with rifles and wore body armor. Thanks to the excellent shooting skills of the police officer, downing both men with his service pistol, the 200 or so attendees of the free speech event were safe.
Whether ISIS had any direct involvement in this terrorist attack is unknown for now. We do know that Elton Simpson had been on a FBI ′watch list′ since at least 2006. He had apparently expressed a desire to travel to Somalia in order to receive training and join a terror group. Simpson later recanted this, but was still found guilty in 2011 of having lied to investigators after an arrest but only received three years of probation.
Many in the Liberal Media are quick to blame Geller and the AFDI for the Texas attack. That the contest, which had a $10,000 prize, was too provocative. The Liberal group, the Southern Poverty Law Center, lists the AFDI as an anti-Muslim organization. Pamela Geller has a history of making some inflammatory statements on Islamic extremism and the Muslim faith in general. Also featured at the Garland event was the controversial Dutch politician, Geert Wilders.
In a radio statement, the Islamic State praised, ″Two of the soldiers of the caliphate executed an attack on an art exhibit in Garland, Texas, and this exhibit was portraying negative pictures of the Prophet Mohammed.″ They went on to warn, ″We tell America that what is coming will be even bigger and more bitter, and that you will see the soldiers of the Islamic State do terrible things.″ If ISIS is directly responsible, this would mark the first attack on American soil by the Islamic State.
So do you think that the Islamic State is directly involved in the Garland, Texas shooting attack? Is this a turning point, verifying earlier reports from the FBI that ISIS, or ISIL, now has active terror cells in all 50 states? Or do you think that these are just two ′lone wolves′ who were just merely inspired by ISIS? What about Pamela Geller? Is she to blame for this because her group held a Prophet Mohammed cartoon contest? Or is she just pointing out that Muslims consider any pictures of Mohammed offensive? How about that Garland police officer who scored two, fatal head shots with his service pistol? Did he eat his Wheaties that morning?
