Two female teachers at Destrehan High School in Jeffereson Parish, Louisiana, were arrested for allegedly having sex with a 16-year old football player. The ′Teacher Threesome′ began allegedly on September 12 after a high school football game. Shelly Dufresne, 32, and Rachel Respess, 24, both English teachers, drove the student to an apartment rented by Respess. According to Kenner Police Chief Michael Glaser, it was there where the two teachers allegedly engaged in a felony sex crime. The football player is a 17-year old junior now and some former students say that the Teacher Threesome had begun earlier. Both teachers graduated from the same high school they currently teach at. Dufresne is reportedly married with 3 children and Respess is single. Both women turned themselves in to police this past Wednesday.
This is just among the latest in a growing number of incidents where adult women, particularly teachers, are being arrested for having sex with their male students. One such high profile case was the one in Kentucky where 27-year old Sarah Jones pleaded guilty to charges of having sex with a 16-year old male student. However, the court let her go as the ′age of consent′ in Kentucky is 16. Jones was fired from her job as a result of her actions, but served no jail time.
A similar situation occurred in South Carolina involving English teacher Kinsley Wentzky, 34, who also was charged with ′sexual battery′ against two 17-year old male students. Again, the age of consent in South Carolina is 16. Both states also have laws on the books concerning adults ′in authority positions′ having sex with anyone under 18. Wentzky faces ten years in prison if convicted.
As we see more cases of female teachers being arrested for allegedly having sex with their underage students, we also see that the courts are more generous than in cases where the teacher is an adult male and the ′victim′ is a female student. Will the two women in the Teacher Threesome case in Louisiana also get a pass from the courts? Your comments are welcome on this ′weighty′ matter.
