According to a report in Politico, Rep. Steve Stockman (Texas) plans to impeach President Obama if the President carries out his plan to enact some gun control measures by executive order. Obama stated at his press conference today that he will make policy recommendations based upon what Vice-President Biden’s task force suggests. Previously, Biden stated that some of his sanctions may be accomplished through executive order rather than depend on the vagaries of Congress.
Stockman stated, “The President’s actions are an existential threat to this nation. The right of the people to keep and bear arms is what has kept this nation free and secure for over 200 years. The very purpose of the Second Amendment is to stop the government from disallowing people the means to defend themselves against tyranny. Any proposal to abuse executive power and infringe upon gun rights must be repelled with the stiffest legislative force possible.
The President’s actions are not just an attack on the Constitution and a violation of his sworn oath of office – they are a direct attack on Americans that place all of us in danger,” he said. “If the President is allowed to suspend constitutional rights on his own personal whims, our free republic has effectively ceased to exist.”
Stockman was elected to the House in November; he previously served in that august body from 1995 to 1997. When Texas redistricted its seats prior to the 1996 election, Stockman was gerrymandered out of his seat. He is thus once again a freshman. In his short stint thus far (about a week), he has already made his mark. He refused to vote for John Boehner for Speaker, and has made it clear that he intends to run for the Speakership eventually. It’s pretty obvious that Stockman did not come to DC this time to make friends; he came to make change.

I mean, yeah, but whatever. I don’t think Obama is very worried about treason and his supporters will yawn because they don’t have an appreciation for the rule of law. That’s the problem when uneducated welfare queens make the difference in presidential elections. FDR tried similar dictatorial stuff and historians don’t seem to mind today.

I am sure that Stockman know this rhetoric will play well at home.
So guns are why we have remained free?
This whole “defense against a tryannical government” is simply cover for people that enjoy guns as a hobby.
Lots of little boys with toys. Some people golf, some like to go boating and others like to have guns, just like when they were little.

Buzz, you are right at a superficial level. Gun owners like their guns and it is a hobby like stamp collecting.
But what liberals like you do, and you are doing it now, is display a profound ignorance for why this is a uniquely American cultural issue. Do you know why “arms” are the only personal property mentioned in the Constitution? Do you understand the historical context or are you just hanging out for the golf?

Buzz,
In one of the earlier drafts of the Bill of Rights, this one written by Roger Sherman, delegate from Connecticut (of all places), the right to keeping and bearing arms was the very first amendment. In fact, he spelled out a even wider and more clear rationale for why an armed citizenry is vital to having a nation based on liberty and individual freedom. Our Founding Fathers understood the long history of tyranny in Europe.

Clinton was impeached; so what he thought to himself, he just kept his cool, hung around & got a bj for it. If Americans want to keep their rights they’re going to have to start using them
