Union protesters turned violent at the Capitol Building in Lansing as Gov. Rick Snyder signed the Michigan Right To Work 2012 bill into law. Steven Crowder, a contributor to the Fox News Channel, was among those assaulted as a group of union thugs tore down two tents occupied by women and handicapped seniors who support the new law. Video of the event clearly shows that Crowder was sucker-punched. Unions and their Democrat allies claim that the new law is unfair as it gives workers the option of joining a union and paying dues. They say it gives non-union workers a ′free ride′ to enjoy the benefits which unions claim to have negotiated. Of course, this argument falls on deaf ears when it comes to the 47% who pay no income tax yet enjoy the benefits of being an American citizen. Michigan now becomes the 24th state to have a right-to-work.
Unlike the Wisconsin labor laws which prompted months of union protests and several recall elections, there are no provisions in the new Michigan law affecting unions from collective bargaining. The main substance of the Michigan law is merely to give union employees the option of paying dues to their unions. Also, new employees will not be legally compelled to join a union as part of being hired by a private or publicly-held company. The new law does not effect government union employment, such as public school teachers, police or firemen. They will still have to join unions if such departments are unionized.
Over the past decade, Michigan has declined from 16th place in average income to 36th. The Great Lakes State has an unemployment rate of 9.1% and continues to struggle following the Crash of 2008. Union employees make up about 17.8% of the labor force, while the national average is around 11.9%. Some 10,000 jobs either have left or are preparing to leave Michigan for nearby Indiana after that state passed a right to work bill more than a year ago. Whether the new Michigan law will change that remains to be seen.

Democrats are for pro-choice and want fair share. Right to work is pro-choice. Unions heads get more then their fair share of high salaries. How about spreading the wealth around by allowing more people to work without unions taking their pay. Let the Unions who supply the Democrat Party Campaign Funding share their wealth among the workers who work and not the Democrat Party who play politics instead of create or work. Unions in the past did protect the worker but now the unions are destroying business and workers. There are many laws in place that protect workers and individuals can have legal due process when there is abuse in the work enviroment. Unions did a service in the past. We are now in Global Market US cannot compete Businesses are forced to leave and put up shop in other countries where they can survive and prosper. Belonging to a union should say the members are outstanding employees and give you A+++ work and your company is better off with a Union. Presently that is not the case. We have labor laws that give people the workplace rights they have today. The states and fed enforce them by way of OSHA,Dept of Labor etc.
The pitiful argument is that these generations of union members have paid dues for decades that supported a system that brought those rights to the workplace, this is true. The other half of the argument is that if you’re to partake in those rights and benefits you must pay dues as well or you’re a scab/parasite.
The perspective or opinion that everyone whos enjoying any freedoms/benefits today must join or be a part of those responsible for creating those more ideal conditions is disgusting and un-American.
I suppose once my kids get their first jobs I’ll attach their wages for my 21 years of giving them a home and future.
Unions did serve their purpose during our economic and industrial booms, our labor laws were practically non existent and favored mostly management and owners in a time of blatant racism and discrimination.
We dont need anymore what has gone from a noble endeavor to a simple protection racket as theres labor law today as that go to every corner of workers rights except for them being able to create their own salaries. The unions have only the money to squabble over these days which simply means they want to take control of the last and most important element of production decisions left to those who actually own production,or better known as “the company itself”
For too long now these companies have been victims of employees whos wages do not commensurate with the work quality or production they bring in but instead these wages are adjusted to every cost of living whether the companys profits can support that level of pay or not.

All we can see from the video is that the attacker appears to get up, then starts swinging. What happened before? Why did he need to get up? Why is the whole tent fiasco so heavily edited?
To me it looks like Mr. Crowder was trying to provoke attack. You jump in the lions den with meat around your neck and you start poking the lions, you’re bound to get hurt. I’m not saying what the attacker did was right, but many people might resort to violence in a situation like that, Republican or Democrat. If you read the whole transcript of Sunday’s broadcast at least Gingrich sorta “gets” it and knows that trying to win an election by only getting old white guys to vote for you is probably not a winning strategy.

Great looking? Sure, but our memories can be clouded when we are reminiscing.
A lot of people in this area have classic cars. In fact they have a Dream Cruise devoted to classics on Woodward Avenue (one of the true American Graffiti strips with a drive-in etc.) that attracts people from all over the United States and has literally millions of spectators.
I have a number of friends that own some of these old classics, Chevelles, Camaros, Mustangs and even some Mopars.
I drive them once in a while in the summer and am reminded that while they had a ton of power they were incredibly primitive. The Corvette was built on a cheap Nova chassis for years and when you drive these things you realize how far we have come.
The absolute worst piece of crap built today is light years ahead of these cars.
They are great looking (‘67 Camaro was my favorite American car, if not the split window Corvette Sting Ray), but couldn’t take a corner.
While it is certainly blasphemous, if I wanted one now I would get a “one-off”. That is the old body and same power plant, but a modern chassis, suspension, etc.
It reminds of a company that thrived when I lived in Miami many years ago. They would take a number of Jaguar models, which were always striking, and install a reliable 350 engine so these mechanical nightmares would start. They also had to rewire the entire Lucas electrical disaster.
Great episode on Top Gear a few years ago took an old Aston Martin DB9 and a 1963 XKE that were mechanically the same as the day they left the factory.
They took them to the track and ran them hard and the Aston started leaking fluids and the XKE also started having a number of problems. In addition they were incredibly slow and also had terrible handling. They had older professional English drivers who laughed and said they were no different in 1963 when they left the dealership. English engineering was always flawed.
As far as looks go, however?
I went to the Detroit Auto Show a few years ago and saw a crowd surrounding an exhibit. I approached and sure enough there was a 1963 XKE on a platform.
All of these new cars and the XKE was still the most stunning vehicle in the building.
In short, one of the problems with the auto industry is the cars are too good.
Safer (damn Nader), reliable (100,000 miles used to be a death knell, now it is nothing) and efficient. A car now needs little maintenance and will last for years and years.
The industry sure was more profitable when they had built-in obsolescence.

Saw an article yesterday where a guy set a record driving a Tesla over 400 miles without a charge (albeit at 25 MPH).
While these cars are currently cost prohibitive; as technology changes and economies of scale start to kick in I am anxious to see what the auto industry creates over the next decade.
Of course the plunging gas prices (no Obama didn’t make them go up or down) will probably lead to a temporary return to everyone buying an F-150. I am still amazed at how well they sell.
I always laugh when I see pick-up truck commercials. They usually employ some booming voice (like Sam Elliot for Ram trucks) and show scenes of them towing the Empire State building or something). Yes, you can put 2 tons in the back!
Meanwhile, all you see are single drivers hauling nothing more than a Golden Retriever.
Just like the SUV craze, it is more style than need.
When I have business associates from other countries visit they look at all of the pick-ups on the roads and are literally amazed.
Of course, for all of our complaining, our gas is still crazy cheap compared to the rest of the world and that includes significant taxes, which is why I too still drive a gas guzzler.

But like so much of the hypocrisy, theft, intentional sabotaging of the economy, and blatant corruption coming from today’s GOP, you see absolutely no wrong with anything as long as it goes against President Obama or Dems.

The hypocrisy here is that unions are acting for the best on behalf of their membership when they contribute only to Democrats. That the laws prevent union members from withholding dues when they are not being represented by their unions.
It has always been a basic tenant of Conservatism that individuals know best how their hard-earned dollars should be spent. The problem has always been that once a government, or in this case, a union, has a license to forcible take money from its citizens or members, that the collective organization knows best how to spend the cash.
The majority of the Liberal agenda, as acted upon by Democrats, and supported by Big Labor, is hostile to the average worker. The unions have set themselves up essentially as another slave master, free to loot from their members despite what the individual may think.
But do keep trying, Ronald. Perhaps if you did not pee in your own pool making the outlandish charges that the Koch brothers hired the union thugs to tear down those tents, maybe I might take you seriously.
