In a humorous but typical display of liberal double-think, a recent photo of Romney pumping gas has led to some mocking comments from liberals. As Noel Sheppard of Newsbusters.org notes, Brian Williams displayed the photo and commented, “You know the old expression ‘riding high in April?’ Well the rest of the lyric might as well be pumping your own gas in November.”
Back in December of 2011, while the Republican primary was still in full swing, the story was a bit different. Then it was liberals from NPR and the virulently anti-Israel Veteran’s News Now, showing photos of Romney filling his tour bus with fuel, mocking him for trying to look “middle class” and “common.”

Which is it? Is he truly an elite “trying” to look common? Perhaps he’s just a common guy who thought he was too big for his britches? Or, as most of America thinks, perhaps he’s a successful person who achieved success by leveraging his brains, talent, and ambition in the way most people do in this country. He’s a good person who worked hard and achieved success the old fashioned way; he earned it.
It’s this vast and thoughtless inconsistency on the part of so many liberals which bothers me more than anything else.
BEFORE THE ELECTION: “Romney is elite and out of touch; look at him trying to pump his own gas!”
AFTER THE ELECTION: “Look at that idiot Romney pumping his own gas; the loser!”
This is just a small example of the many inconsistencies aimed at Romney and other conservatives. We hear tales of those “good, middle-class” multimillionaire Democrats like John Edwards, Joe Biden, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, and John Kerry, all of whom are worth either tens or hundreds of millions. It makes people like Paul Ryan and John Boehner, whose combined worth is far less than even a single Democrat I’ve listed, look positively destitute.
Yet the media obsesses over the wealth of conservatives and ignores that far more considerable wealth of liberal leaders in Washington. The media of course plays the same game with military experience, hyping the military credentials of Democrats and mocking the service of Republicans.
When Clinton ran against incumbent President Bush and then Senator Dole, military service meant nothing. When George HW Bush ran against Al Gore and then John Kerry, Bush’s service in the Air National Guard was seen as “dodging service in Viet Nam,” while Gore’s service as a reporter in Viet Nam and Kerry’s few weeks of service there were seen as “noble,” and “honorable,” and “decisive.” Then, of course, when Senator Obama ran against a Viet Nam veteran who not only served in Viet Nam but was captured and tortured by the enemy, military service meant nothing. Finally, when Romney ran against Obama, neither of whom served in the military, questions were asked regarding why Romney used his missionary work to “dodge the draft” and why none of his five sons had served. How convenient these double-standards can be!
So, for those who need help translating MSM-speak regarding these issues, I am posting a copy of a handy Quick Reference Guide used by liberals in the MSM to help them properly report on these topics.
CANDIDATE HAS NO MILITARY SERVICE
Democrat – No military service? Ignore it! Who cares anyway? Not us!
Republican – No military service? Were they eligible to serve in Viet Nam? If so, accuse them of somehow dodging the draft. Were they too young? Question the “hypocrisy” of favoring a strong military without ever having served in the military. If possible, accuse wives, children, and pets of never having served.
CANDIDATE HAS MILITARY SERVICE
Democrat – Any military service, including taking pictures and writing stories as a military correspondent is just awesome and noteworthy! If service is not impressive, say little other than the fact they served. If service is extensive, talk endlessly about every detail of their service.
Republican – Meh! No one cares.
WEALTH – $0 to $5 million
Democrat – Candidate is “honest,” “hard working,” “middle class,” “real,” “working class,” “salt of the earth,” “worthy of a Nobel Peace Prize.”
Republican – Candidate is “wealthy/rich/loaded,” “elite,” “out-of-touch,” “arrogant,” “impersonal,” “cold,” “uncaring,” “locks dogs in kennels on car roofs,” “stingy,” “out-of-touch,” “a cheat,” “tax dodger,” “hates women,” “hates minorities,” “hates immigrants,” “hates self for being rich,” “out-of-touch.”
WEALTH – $5 million to $15 million

Yeah, liberal hypocrisy. Who knew?
But the worst part is that he strapped Obama to the top of the car for the trip.
November 25th, 2012 at 3:22 pm
What are the odds that Obama ever pumped a gallon of gas ?
November 25th, 2012 at 3:25 pm
I think the odds are good that he did pump his own gas for a long time. He started like a lot of people, though he seems to like multi-billion dollar high speed rail that takes 30 years to build more than cars these days.
November 25th, 2012 at 6:23 pm
Well, in reality, he did not start like a lot of people I know as their fathers were not CEO’s of auto manufacturing companies and were not Governors, nor did they run an aborted campaign for President.
But, sure, he still put his tailored silk pants on one leg at a time.
November 25th, 2012 at 6:39 pm
Actually Buzz, I’m talking about President Obama. As for Romney, his dad worked his way up to that job from nothing. Please remember that George and his family lived through the depression. I’m not even sure that George ever finished college. He obviously passed his work ethic onto Mitt.
November 25th, 2012 at 6:51 pm
Kaddle;
“What are the odds that Obama ever pumped a gallon of gas ?”
He is married to Michelle

How would you know ?
November 25th, 2012 at 11:59 pm
The elections over David.
November 26th, 2012 at 12:48 am
The election is over but Obama is still incompetent. God love the liberals who worship this sheman.
November 26th, 2012 at 5:59 am
AOK-
Somebody had to pump gas into Oblamo’s choomchoom van.He probably had a “Harriet Reed” buddy who pumped the gas….
November 26th, 2012 at 6:58 am
Patrick, had Romney strapped Obama to his rear bumper, then the Media would think he is a racist like GW, while just being strapped to the roof means Mitt is just cruel to animals.
November 26th, 2012 at 7:10 am
Rather than being bitter and immature about Romney losing, you all look in the mirror and try to understand WHY HE lost.
First step would be for the GOP to take responsibility, look in the mirror, and stop blaming everything from the weather to negative ads.
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1112/83262.html
And please spare me the “gifts” BS. 75% of Asians (the most self sufficient and prosperous minority group)voted for Obama.
November 26th, 2012 at 7:40 am
Referencing Politico?
Oh, that won’t go unnocticed.
The preference is links to right-wing blogs, Fox News reports, or “objective” magazines, like the American Spectator or the Weekly Standard or perhaps the New American (published by that noted group of yore, the John Birch Society).

“First step would be for the GOP to take responsibility, look in the mirror, and stop blaming everything from the weather to negative ads.”
Thats bullsht.
The most prevalent conversation among conservatives right now is what changes need to be made within the GOP to attract this supposed new demographic that America became.
There is “blame” which theres plenty of to go around, then there are “excuses”.
While I dont agree with the reasons the right thinks it needs to change they are in fact “reasoning” more than anything as this latest concession to higher taxes makes clear.

“And please spare me the “gifts” BS. 75% of Asians (the most self sufficient and prosperous minority group)voted for Obama.”
So what ?
If your going to assert that sufficient and prosperous whites take freebees also dont be so racist about it by putting any other well to do demographic above another just to make a galf ass point.
I live in Hawaii, democratic leadership is very much a [art of the culture among our Asian population because previous generations before immigrating or statehood were victims of far right governments with none of the human and capitalistic rights conservatives offer in this country.
Like it or not, its a fact.
These people due to British and French rule dont like the white man.
Hawkishness, a conservative quality, which prevailed in the dem party of WW2 did Nagasaki and Hiroshima no more favors than did the interim camps that locked up American Japanese.
These people also know that as a minority if the sht hits the fan they’re givin better access to goverment aid and their legally migrated families are given spectacular supplements as soon as the hit the dock.
I’ve been in America as a citizen for 52 years and cant get a business loan, food stamps, medical, financial aid in half the time it takes them.
So Yeah, I will not spare you the “gift” card because its a fact known by every Filipino,S. Korean, Thai, Taiwanese, Vietnamese, Japanese, Tongan, Fijian, Samoan, Micronesian that the qualifications are in their favor.
I’m the minority here in both race and ideology and see it every day.
Ask yourself why your census form asks your race.
November 26th, 2012 at 9:41 am
RonM?
You LOOK in the mirror and start chanting…My taxes are going up (repeat several times) or unless you are of course on Oblamo’s teat.
Like Jamie Foxx said today….” Barack Obama–Our Lord and SAVIOR…”
November 26th, 2012 at 9:53 am
buzzbee – How about you look at the data in the graph, follow the SOURCE and decide if it’s factual or not. That’s what educated people do even when reading partisan blogs. Check the data SOURCE, not WHERE it’s published.
Here. I’ll do it for you.

Ah, Ron, I was being sarcastic about the fact that most links to anything not considered right wing is judged to be “tainted” by commenters on this site.
This whole rhetoric about Obama running the “most negative campaign ever” is nonsense.
I pointed it out in previous posts regarding the Jefferson/Adams campaign and Time Magazine does a great job featuring that exact same election in last week’s issue.
A couple of years ago a major magazine (it might have been U.S. News and World Report) recounted almost every presidential campaign and the mud-slinging that took place.
It makes today’s elections appear genteel.
Your graph did a good job of highlighting the pendulum of “negative” campaigning.
November 26th, 2012 at 11:23 am
buzzbee – This is not a good place for sarcasm because some of these people REALLY BELIEVE some of the crap they say…..LOL.
Remember, the GOP is the party that’s home to the “birthers” and Sarah Palin/Michelle Bachmann.

“The preference is links to right-wing blogs, Fox News reports, or “objective” magazines, like the American Spectator or the Weekly Standard or perhaps the New American (published by that noted group of yore, the John Birch Society).”
Yadda, yadda…
And moonbats submit NYTs, Huffy, MSNBC, Media Matters…
nutin new here
November 26th, 2012 at 11:52 am
How on Earth did Michelle Bachmann get re-elected (albeit by a small margin)?
I mean, really, do people listen to her comments?
Who are the people that comprise her constituency?
Things Michelle Bachmann has said, and this is only the tip of the iceberg:
“I don’t know how much God has to do to get the attention of the politicians. We’ve had an earthquake; we’ve had a hurricane.”
“I will tell you that I had a mother last night come up to me here in Tampa, Florida, after the debate. She told me that her little daughter took that vaccine, that injection, and she suffered from mental retardation thereafter.” –Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), on the HPV vaccine, Fox News interview, Sept. 12, 2011
“Why should I go and do something like that? But the Lord says, ‘Be submissive wives; you are to be submissive to your husbands.”
“I find it interesting that it was back in the 1970s that the swine flu broke out under another, then under another Democrat president, Jimmy Carter. I’m not blaming this on President Obama, I just think it’s an interesting coincidence.”
“If we took away the minimum wage — if conceivably it was gone — we could potentially virtually wipe out unemployment completely because we would be able to offer jobs at whatever level.”
“But we also know that the very founders that wrote those documents worked tirelessly until slavery was no more in the United States. … I think it is high time that we recognize the contribution of our forbearers who worked tirelessly — men like John Quincy Adams, who would not rest until slavery was extinguished in the country.” -Rep. Michele Bachmann, botching American history while speaking at an Iowan’s for Tax Relief event in January 2011. The Founding Fathers did not work to end slavery, and John Quincy Adams was not one of the Founding Fathers.
Yup, she was certainly “Presidential” material. Didn’t she actually win the straw poll in Iowa?
Yikes!
November 26th, 2012 at 11:56 am
The Obama Campaign went very negative in this election cycle, that is an indisputable fact. Did Romney run any ads declaring that Obama is “not one of us”? No, but Obama did.
Romney was even accused of killing a woman! His wife was attacked for having a show horse, they were both attacked for putting their dog in a shielded kennel on the roof of their car, meanwhile, the fact that Obama ATE dog as a young man, that was ignored.
Really, if you think Obama ran a shining, inspirational campaign, then you probably live in an alternate universe. The president accused Romney of lying on a constant basis, he accused him of fraud and tax evasion, his campaign officials hinted that he was a felon.
Obama one by going so negative that he scared independents away in order to keep them from voting against him. The good news for Republicans is that, at least this time, Obama gets to inherit his own mess.
November 26th, 2012 at 12:09 pm
David Flanagan – BOTH campaigns ran negative ads. Whining about who’s were worse is something for the losing side to engage in. And I’m not too inclined hear moaning from the party of “birthers” and Donald Trump.

Brian Williams. Maybe one day he can get his own show like Anderson Cooper. Aim high, Brian.
As for Mr. Romney so what if he uses self-service gasoline. There aren’t that many full-service stations out there. Romney just buys his gasoline and leaves. barack obama has agents fill up the car while he goes in and buys swisher sweets to roll up his blunts. And he turns tricks in the mens room.
November 26th, 2012 at 1:07 pm
David,
I highly doubt those campaign ads really had a significant effect. People usually grow tired of ads and most people can recognize gross hyperbole. It could be argued that ads with such negativity may have pushed more people into the Romney camp as I’m sure many independents found those ads despicable, not scary.
November 26th, 2012 at 1:24 pm
David Flanagan – Belly arching about dirty personal politics coming from the “birther” party is just laughable.
Really. I haven’t heard anything funnier regarding politics in 5 years.
And nobodies buying your lame “….he scared independents away in order to keep them from voting against him…” Karl Rove BS excuses either. Obama ran a mere 6% more negative ads than Romney did.
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1112/83262.html
Just suck it up and take the loss like a man.
November 26th, 2012 at 1:55 pm
Anyway, back to Obama tied to the roof of Romney’s car in a dog kennel. God I love that image!
November 26th, 2012 at 4:35 pm
“David Flanagan – Belly arching about dirty personal politics coming from the “birther” party is just laughable.”
Ron, pardon me,but this personal attack goes right to the heart. Your use of the term “birther party” is a sophomoric generalization of the most retarded kind and shows just how ideologically bigoted and ignorant you are in any political circle.
Theres none of us here that doubt his citizenship and if anything are curious of what religion could be listed on the document.
If the”Muslim” box is checked I’m sure even you could imagine the ramifications.
Soooooooo… with that, you, as a member of the “truther party”
have no business telling anyone to do anything in a manly fashion.
It may not of cost Romney the election, but the commercials put out mostly by super-pac organizations are in fact the sleaziest I have ever seen.
And as everyone knows, I know sleaze when I see it so ya’ll should thank your lucky stars (not the hollywood ones that were in some of these ads) that I’m not creating ads in any election.
By the time I got done with you guys you’d all be vagrant snot running down your nose child and animal molesters with pearl jam stains in your crotch’s and upper lips from huffing black sharpies out of the Pentagons garbage.
November 26th, 2012 at 7:50 pm
“BEFORE THE ELECTION: “Romney is elite and out of touch; look at him trying to pump his own gas!”
AFTER THE ELECTION: “Look at that idiot Romney pumping his own gas; the loser!””
You couldn’t have summed up the liberal base better than this. Kudos to you.

Pointing out that the Republican party “winked and nodded” at the birther smear RIGHT UP until Trump’s last digs weeks before the election? What’s wrong with that?
“are in fact the sleaziest I have ever seen.”
Blah, Blah…..of course. Your guy lost.
After 4 years of personal GOP attacks on Obama’s birthright, his allegience, his faith, his citizenship…..etc. I’m glad his people finally took the gloves off and knocked the shite out of whoever the GOP candidate was for a win.
Think we’ll be hearing from Trump anytime soon? Anymore “Kenyan” crap? Anymore “transcript” B/S from the GOP?
