Chris Christie, who I used to be a fan of (But am no longer) just got an endorsement I’m sure he didn’t want. With him essentially campaigning for President in 2016, the endorsements will start rolling in. But one is probably unwanted by him, and could seriously hurt his standing in the party.
He got endorsed by… MSNBC’s Chris Matthews. That has to be wrong, that can’t be so! Chris Matthews?
“Well, the man has style. And I think most people in New Jersey would say, as Peggy Noonan said in her column right before the election, he will be popular in New Jersey. He won’t be so popular in Republican Party circles because he did seem to help the president there a bit. Although Nate Silver and others don’t think it was the reason he won or anything.”
“But I do think he has style. And I know in Philadelphia where I keep in touch, and South Jersey, they love him. Regular people in my family and they’re very regular people —they like him because that ‘at-ey-tude’ — as we say in Philly, we pronounce it that way — ‘at-ey-tude.’”
“And the fact he is able to tell somebody on a call-in show ‘it’s none of your business where my kids go to school,’ people really like that attitude. They’re sick of politicians being so politically correct and careful. If you can occasionally show real personality, they love you. That was Romney’s problem. The sense the lights are on but is there anybody there? Whereas this guy, this it big guy in so many ways, you know he’s always there. Spontaneity — leaders have to be three things. They have to have a mission, a motive in life, we’ll find out what his is. They have to have passion, this guy has got that. And they got to have spontaneity, and this guy has got spontaneity. You wake him up in the morning, he’ll tell you something. And I think that’s what people want to have in a politician.”
These were Chris Matthew’s words, describing Chris Christie.
For those of you who don’t know, Chris Christie is the current Governor of New Jersey. I used to like him, and I liked him a lot. I thought he was aggressive and bold. I thought he had talent. But then he semi-betrayed Governor Romney, whom I support greatly. He came out and publicly praised President Obama about his response to the hurricane, to the extent that it looked as if they were great friends. I wouldn’t care if he praised the President, but he praised him so much that it may have influenced voters, and did so extremely close to the election.
Many voters voted based on the President’s hurricane response, according to the exit polls. Does Governor Christie’s large praise of the President correlate with this? There is a good chance, but we will never know.
Then, after the election, Governor Christie called the President to congratulate him immediately afterwards, and only emailed Governor Romney. He proceeded to make multiple attacks on Governor Romney in the days and weeks afterwards, critizing him on everything, including his ‘gifts’ comments to Romney’s and numerous other things. There is also speculation that Governor Christie denied Romney a visit to New Jersey immediately following the hurricane.
He’s already started running for President in 2016. His convention speech was nearly all about him and what he has done in New Jersey, and he’s practically campaigning for the office.
Because of his influence in this past election, and his attacking Governor Romney, I have made a commitment that I will not support his probable candidacy for President. And I am not alone. Nearly every Republican I have talked to have told me that they won’t vote for him in the primaries because of this, and they would seriously consider voting against him in the general election all because of his actions against Governor Romney.
Some have even told me that they are going to write a $250 check to the person who gets the Democratic Nomination for Governor in New Jersey simply because they want Christie to lose re-election.
And these were the same people who donated to Christie in is 2010 election.
And Chris Matthews’ near-endorsement of Governor Christie may have just secured the deal for me in the primaries.
Wishing you and your family a happy Thanksgiving!

Christie has one chubby leg so far into the Anti-Gun Camp he couldn’t get elected Dog Catcher outside the Hyper-Urban Eastern Seaboard.
It figures, that spittle chinned Libqueef Matthews would start getting leg tingles over this Tony Soprano wannabe.
As impressive as Obama’s ‘Get Out The Vote’ machine was, this time around, the 2nd Amendment crowd is 2nd To None when it comes to motivating the troops on election day.

Happy Thanksgiving All!
Yeah, the RINO Christie deserves an endorsement from Chris Matthews. But even if Fred Flintstone managed to get the GOP nomination, the Liberal Media will still turn on him and make him appear as a far-right nut job. Such is our fate in this universe.

There will be no candidate Christie at least not for President. It’s not going to happen. As for Mr. Matthews he should pull his tie really, really tightly while he pleasures himself. The sooner that man dies from autoerotic asphyxiation – or anything else – the better the world will be.

Not sure if he is going to win reelection to governor, but if he does than he is still in the running.

Good grief ! What happened to Christie ?
Up until a few weeks ago he was kind of my hero.
Seems placing even minimal trust in these guys is too much risk.

When Steve Doozy of Fox and Friends asked Christie if there was “any possibility that Governor Romney may go to New Jersey to tour some of the damage with you?” The governor replied dismissively: “I have no idea, nor am I the least bit concerned or interested,” adding: “If you think right now I give a damn about presidential politics, then you don’t know me.” (Doozy was obviously unhappy with the answer).
It was obvious that while it is normal for a “real” president to visit a disaster scene there is no reason, apart from politics, for a man “running for president” to be there. I mean, what would the purpose be?
Especially when that man running for president saw no need for FEMA, the very agency providing assistance to Christie’s state.
November 24th, 2012 at 10:52 am
buzzbee – True. The righties are all upset because Christie didn’t play politics. His state was in crisis, and he welcomed federal help. The president happened to be a Democrat.
For this the GOP wants to throw him under the bus. Good. By 2016 they’ll be down to Palin and Limbaugh.
November 24th, 2012 at 10:59 am
Why would you give up on him, Micky? Heck, he did what many people demand from politicians and that is to not put politics first. He did the right thing and I am sure he was aware there would be a backlash (which I understand was overt at the Governors Conference).
Heck, as the Republican presidential hopefuls race to distance themselves from Romney, Christie is probably the candidate most likely to win votes from a changing electorate.
No, he will not gain the support of the Tea Party (which is increasingly irrelevant) or the NRA, but he could actually gain votes from the middle.
There are a lot of people that are fiscally conservative, but are ambivalent on social and religious issues and only vote Democratic because they view the hard right component of the GOP as “some kind of crazy”. After the primaries people only remembered some nutbag like Bachmann or the cheering of the crowd to letting people die if they didn’t have health insurance. Is that representative of the majority of Republicans? Of course not, but people remember the outlandish and the GOP primaries are certainly that.
I always wonder why the GOP panders to the extreme right of the party. I know it is often due to fiscal contributions, but why pander to a group you already own? It is not as if they would vote for a Democrat. Sure, it may affect turnout to some degree, but these are people that historically vote in high numbers.
Ask any Democrat right now who they would fear in an election and Christie would top the list. He has an “everyman” quality, unfortunately looks like the electorate (obese, same as the rest of America) and is combative with the press, which Republicans love.

“I mean, what would the purpose be?”
Gee, I dont know ?
Like every candidate, its called a “look I care” photo op.
Barry did the same thing.
And every things still a third world hell hole.

I commend Christies for doing what needs to be done.
But it seems his ass is a bit to far up the wrong end lately.
And thats not easy

This article highlights exactly why Republicans will fail every future election. As soon as one of their own begins to appeal to something other than the hardcore right, they are immediately shunned. Why not take pride in a Republican candidate who appeals to the non-tea partiers, who might actually give you a chance of winning? You guys are so hermetically sealed in your right wing cocoon, that you can no longer use common sense and wisdom to actually choose what’s good for the country, outside of an objectively narrow-minded agenda. If the GOP sticks with the type of thinking this article is a poster child for, then it will be slowly relegated to the dustbin of humanities really, really bad ideas.
