This past week has been an exciting one as we wrap up our coverage of the Republican National Convention in Tampa Bay, Florida. Between tropical storms and empty chairs, there is plenty to review and talk about. The early indications are that the Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan ticket got about a 6-point boost in the polls. There are even signs that they may have closed the ′gender gap′ by a few points. The big winners, other than Romney and Ryan, were Marco Rubio and Condoleeza Rice, who delivered great speeches. While I wouldn′t call Chris Christie a ′big loser′, his speech did hurt his stock a bit, possibly damaging any future ambitions. The real big losers were the Liberal Media, whose TV ratings were hammered as people watched the GOP convention on Fox News or through other sources.
Is it any surprise that NBC and CNN led the way in the decline of viewership? MSNBC, ABC and CBS each lost more than 25% of the audiences from 2008, while NBC and CNN lost more than 50%. Only Fox News maintained their ratings from 2008. FNC even beat out the major networks, averaging about 9 million viewers per night, including some 2.5 million of the much sought after 25-54 crowd. ABC came in second with just 4.4 million. The rest drew less than 4 million with MSNBC on the bottom with an average of 1.88 million per night. Next week′s Democrat convention should be interesting as we see if similar results occur.
The single biggest loser of the week, other than Barack Obama, was his thigh-tingling buddy, Chris Matthews. He went completely over the edge on Tuesday accusing Mitt Romney of being a racist. This was his reaction to Romney talking about how Obama has eliminated the work requirement for welfare and for Romney′s joke about not needing a birth certificate to prove he was born in Michigan. Matthews said this while badgering RNC chairman Reince Priebus on Morning Joe. Even Scarborough was uncomfortable with the insane rantings of Matthews. Perhaps this is why Chris was not seen the following days on the MSNBC morning show?
So what this tells us is what we were already seeing in the new Medicare debate. Americans are getting fed up with overly biased ′reporting′ and are no longer accepting the Liberal spin. Old gas-bags like Chris Matthews no longer have the power they once enjoyed. Younger gas-bags, like Rachel Maddow, can only dream of bygone days. Their knee-jerk, snarky reactions to anything said by a Republican are no longer the currency of the realm.
We shall see how this all plays out during the Democrat convention. Given the douche-bag list of convention speakers the Democrats have lined up, it should prove amusing. All they are missing are the national mammary glands, Alan Alda and Phil Donahue. But there will be plenty of others of equal gelatine brains and spines to make up for their absence.

So what you are saying is, there was a big decline in interest among non-FOX watchers.

“there was a big decline in interest among non-FOX watchers.”
That makes as much sense as saying gay men have a declining interest in women.
Duh…

Even though even Newt Gingrich admitted the work requirement as was, in fact, a lie.
September 1st, 2012 at 1:43 pm
Oh, so now Newts in your corner huh ?
Both sides are all full o sht twisting this any convenient way.
Heres the bottom line no matter what you are.
Herman Cain;
On Thursday, the Obama Administration issued a directive allowing states to waive the work requirement – and only the work requirement. The directive explains: “The Secretary (Kathleen Sebelius) is interested in using her authority to approve waiver demonstrations to challenge states to engage in a new round of innovation that seeks to find more effective mechanisms for helping families succeed in employment.”
In fact, Sebelius has >>>no authority<<< to grant such waivers. The bill makes that very clear by limiting the allowance of waivers to one section only, and it very explicitly excludes the work requirement from that section. This was not an accident. The power of the bill, and of the whole idea, was that it would only succeed if the work requirement was mandatory for all states and for all recipients."
http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/08/fact-check-president-obama-gutted-welfare-reform/
"Newt Gingrich, speaking alongside his wife, Callista, tonight in Tampa, revived the Romney camp’s claims that the Obama administration had “gutted” welfare reform by offering waivers for states seeking more flexibility in meeting federal work requirements.
On Aug. 7, Romney released an ad claiming that “under Obama’s plan, you wouldn’t have to work and wouldn’t have to train for a job. They just send you your welfare check.”
But as Gingrich himself told CNN just two days later, “We have no proof today, but I would say to you under Obama’s ideology it is absolutely true he would be comfortable sending a lot of people checks for doing nothing.”
Tonight, Gingrich doubled down.
“Tragically, President Obama gutted this achievement and, like Jimmy Carter, over four years he produced little effective legislation that brought the two parties together,” he said. “Waiving the work requirements in welfare reform is just one example of his direct repudiation of President Reagan’s values.”
The language from the memo in question, though, belies much of the Republican claim.
The Health and Human Services department “will only consider approving waivers relating to the work participation requirements that make changes intended to lead to more effective means of meeting the work goals of [the 1996 reform legislation],” it says.
In effect, the Obama administration has stated it would be willing to give states the option to propose more efficient ways to get welfare recipients back to work. Any such plan would require the state to increase the number of people moving from welfare to work by 20 percent.
Among the states to file for the waivers so far are Utah and Nevada. Both have Republican governors."

So tell me Buzz, who decides who gets these waivers ?
Electoral votes come to mind ?
Try again

Poor Buzz! This is what happens when you get all your news from MSNBC-HuffPo-NYTimes-WashPo and MediaMittens. Where are the fact checkers to refute that Gingrich refutes your refute???

The GOP did not attack Barry personally. The attacked his policy. Dems will attack on a personal level because they have nothing to offer except lies, division and deceit. Let’s count how many times during their convention they say, “This is for the children, working families and the seniors.” Hey we know the GOP hates those 3 groups cause BSNBC said so.

George…
Is this the same George we’ve missed for months ?
September 2nd, 2012 at 11:00 am
Ummm..no.
I watched him on Anderson Cooper. While he squirmed he did in fact admit that there was no proof that the ad was true and admitted that it was done to appease two Republican Governors who wanted to change the training of people on welfare.
Damned if you do…
Oh well, never let the truth get in the way of a good story.
The fact that Newt later repeated the lie, even though he admitted it was one, does not change the facts.
September 2nd, 2012 at 11:58 am
OK, at the RNC they talked about life, marriage, liberty and jobs. Let’s see what’s the DNC discourse about.
September 2nd, 2012 at 1:59 pm
BUZZ
Who cares what he said on Cooper.
The facts are in the actions of Barry and Sebelius are clearly laid out for you.
What two governors opted for are only relevant in your argument as its governors of any stripe who should decide whats best for their state.
Barry is allowing his socialist surrogate, who has no authority, to issue vouchers omitting some from a national directive at her discretion. A directive which originally was supposed to be a concerted effort between states and the fed.
To be more precise (God forbid) Obama is accused of “gutting” welfare reform.
Not true, but he has “weakened it” on a national level, giving states less say so by letting the unauthorized socialist Sebilius decide on what states are granted these waivers.
“After the law was enacted, every state was required to design a plan to move people into the workforce, along with more funds to help pay for training, childcare and transportation. As a result, millions of people moved from welfare to work.
“The recently announced waiver policy was originally requested by the Republican governors of Utah and Nevada to achieve more flexibility in designing programs more likely to work in this challenging environment. The Administration has taken important steps to ensure that the work requirement is retained and that waivers will be granted only if a state can demonstrate that more people will be moved into work under its new approach. The welfare time limits, another important feature of the 1996 act, will not be waived.”
Guess who said that.
And tell me.
The reform act undoubtedly was one of Clinton and Gingrichs best accomplishments…
Why is Barry changing anything ?
And does this not stink just as much as waivers omitting states from Obamacare which a majority of Republican governors are now fighting for ?
And what difference does it really make when every other freebee under the sun has become more accessible to every tom dick n harry ?
Unemployment extensions like we’ve never seen, food stamp accessibility like we’ve never seen, mortgage bailouts like we’ve never seen, corporate welfare like we’ve never seen.
And you actually believe Obama does not want welfare more accessible previous to an election ?
You’re high, and I couldnt care less about talk shows but more about what those in power have actually doing and said.
Wise up.

Well God bless you and I’ll drop a note in his box asking for your continued good health.

“national mammary glands, Alan Alda and Phil Donahue…”
I get your point and had a good laugh. But man what a horrible image that conjured up. Those two. Ugh. Are they even still alive?
As for the drop in ratings re: 2012 vs. 2008 maybe some of it is due to changing way people get their news. I hope you’re right about more people getting fed up with d’bags like Chris Matthews.
September 3rd, 2012 at 4:34 am
Heh-heh-heh, Vick,
Sorry if you had any nightmares visualizing Alan Alda and Phil Donahue as mammary glands. And yes, they both are still alive.
