The Nevada Journal ran the numbers and found that the $1.3 billion dollars the Barack Obama administration has spent in Nevada on green energy has only created 288 jobs. That means that each green energy job created by federal subsidies costs us taxpayers $4.6 million dollars each. This revelation comes as Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid hosts a Green Energy Summit in Nevada. Reid wants to close down a coal-burning power plant, despite the fact that green or renewable energy costs 400% more per kilowatt hour than coal, oil or natural gas power plants for producing electricity.
Barack Obama often pointed to Spain as an example of how he wants the United States to approach increasing green energy usage. The problem, of course, is that Spain′s pursuit of renewable energy has helped bankrupt the nation. Studies show that for each ′green job′ created, at least three real jobs are lost. Spain now has an unemployment rate well above 20%.
Another victim of Obama′s green energy policy is the U.S. military. Already facing dramatic funding cutbacks, the military is being forced to use more green energy. One plan calls for the US Navy to buy bio-fuels instead of oil at a cost of more than $26 dollars per gallon. Considering that a warship will use thousands of gallons per week, this becomes serious money very quickly.
So once again, we see how Barack Obama is taking the nation down the wrong path. Instead of doing something rational, like offering a cash prize to a private company that solves or invents a cheap, renewable energy source, Obama is just throwing precious tax dollars around to anyone who supports his, and other Democrat, campaigns, like Senator Harry Reid. The situation in Nevada is a prime example of the wasteful spending spree Obama has been engaged upon these last 43 months. Hopefully, the madness will come to a screeching halt in 88 days should Obama be defeated in the November elections.

This is Obamanomics putting your tax dollars to work. If the idiot had bothered once taking an economics class in college he would have discarded socialism long ago.

Oil subsidies are fifty billion a year. And what do we get for this? $4.25 at the pump and the Eath destroyed by pumping zillons of tons of carbon dixoide into the air (Did you enjoy your Summer this year? Just wait until next year.).
Every penny spent on alternative energy sources is money well spent. Every penny spent on the past is a liability for everyone.

I’m no fan of oil subsidies either, GOK, but in terms of investment, keep in mind that nearly 25% of ALL federal revenue comes from oil leases and royalty fees. That’s a big chunk of cash and if you need to spend $50 Billion to get $500 Billion back in return, then it makes good economical sense.

GOK
Many of the alternative systems are just not cost effective yet because they rely on weather and geographics.
I think every new house/building should be topped off with solar panels. But theres a reason this hasnt happened already.
Seen as an unecessary overhead to first time homeowners.
The sun dont shine always everywhere.
The economy sucks right now.
There is no net gain alternative energy sources yet.
“Well spent” would be an opinion.
So far its cost taxpayers 10 times more than any benefits its produced.
My summer ?
Our air is cleaner than it was during Carters days when he said the planet would have no oil in 10-15 years which spawned all kinds of really stupid initiatives that ended up benefiting the Japanese more than us.
EPA has served its purpose. Now its just an overpriced Marxist bulldog
My summer was spent watching food prices rise 2-3% every month. That 2011 $5.00 five pound box of frozen chicken thighs is now a consistent 8.00
Theres a drought and corn is still subsidized for Ethanol while people starve and gas went to another all time high.
You might want to think about that on your next bowl of Froot Loops.
I like them too, the sugar rush is most excellent.
As far as past expenditures being a “Every penny spent on the past is a liability for everyone.” goes…
its one of the most idiotic things I’ve ever heard.
Had it not been for oil and coal most of us wouldnt be here.
When things have enough application and attraction to the market they blossom.
Cell phones, communications tech over the last 15-20 years are the best example of mass production/competition reducing cost
They had solar panels earlier than 1965, developed by NASA. I used one in 4th grade.
They havent changed much since then.
Let me ask you something.
Do we really want windmills everywhere ?

You people just do not get it. Global Warming is really happening, and it is a huge threat to the US. The US economy is not based on oil, it is based upon agriculture.
There is going to come a time when you will not be able to deny it any longer. Solar and wind are big industries right now, and the more the truth sinks in, the more we are going to have to rely upon these sources of energy, rather than upon oil and coal. So it makes perfect sense to subsidize these industries, right now, before it is too late.

I believe the first working solar panel was invented in 1839. The more modern semiconductor types came after WW2 in the 40s and 50s. So the technology has been around for quite a while. Let us keep in mind that many of the early hybrid electric cars from the 1900s have about the same gasoline mileage as do today’s.
Pound for pound, the most efficient and economical energy source for a mobile application is gasoline.
