Chris Christie, as everyone knows, is the Republican Governor of New Jersey. Cory Booker, as most everyone knows, is the Democratic Mayor of Newark. Booker’s fame increased a couple of winters ago when, during a snowstorm, a constituent texted him that her dad couldn’t get out of his driveway; the Mayor volunteered to shovel him out. Then, earlier this year, Booker rescued a woman from a fire in her home. So the Governor and the Mayor put together a video teasing Booker’s propensity for getting himself involved in people’s troubles. They premiered the video this week at the New Jersey Correspondents Dinner.
For a little background before you watch the video, when Christie repeatedly says ‘Booker’ after each gag, that is a spin on Seinfeld, where Jerry had an arch-enemy; whenever the guy did something to adversely affect Seinfeld, he would say ‘Newman’.
Let me just add two comments of my own. First of all, why does New Jersey have a correspondent’s dinner? I thought that there weren’t any television stations in the state and that everyone in the east part of the state read NYC papers and that everyone in the west read the Philly papers?
Second, these are two of my favorite politicians in the country, and this is part of the reason why. They don’t take themselves super-seriously, and they don’t want to play the reindeer game where every Democrat says that every Republican is the spawn of Satan and vice versa. None of these guys actually believe it, and only think that they have to feed red meat to their stupid constituents. It’s nice to see two intelligent guys actually joking with each other and letting people in the state and the nation know that they respect each other and us, too.
