Swamp People star Mitchell Guist died of natural causes Monday morning according to Ascension Parish (Louisiana) coroner Dr. John Fraiche, who has completed the preliminary autopsy. Guist died after he collapsed while building his houseboat on the Belle River, about 40 miles south of Baton Rouge. He had just launched the boat and was pushing it when he collapsed, according to a friend of the family.
Mitchell will be laid to rest on Saturday after funeral services in Gonzales, LA. According to a friend of the family, visitation at the funeral home will be on Friday evening and Saturday morning. The funeral services are scheduled to be held at noon Saturday. Family is hoping that a number of Mitchell’s fans show up to celebrate his life with them.
Swamp People airs on the History Channel on Thursdays at 8:00 pm Louisiana Time. The program highlights Cajun life in the Atchafalaya Basin, emphasizing Cajun cooking, culture, and hunting and fishing.
Mitchell and his brother Glenn became folk heroes here in Louisiana soon after they began appearing on the show during its second season. They were honored last year at the Gonzales Christmas Parade and have made a number of appearances throughout this region.
Here is a video introducing the Guist brothers to viewers:

Imagine Obama trying to live off the land. I don’t think he has ever done a useful thing for himself in his entire life.
May 17th, 2012 at 5:14 am
Obama can barely order a latte at a Starbucks. So many choices and options to weigh. Could take him hours, even days, to decide.
May 17th, 2012 at 5:35 am
I can’t think of any president that could “live off the land”.
I am sure there are some that pre-date the modern era that could.
Perhaps Teddy Roosevelt?
May 17th, 2012 at 5:42 am
I think Jimmy Carter was the first president actually born in a hospital. Not that this means the others before him would be much better at survival. But they did come from a tougher era.
May 17th, 2012 at 6:54 am
Yes. and its a matter of degrees. At least the other presidents could hunt, including Carter. Obama must be the first president without any useful skills.
One thing is for sure, if we were all stranded on a desert island, nobody would pick Obama for a position of leadership. He would be dead weight while the rest of us organized, built huts, fished, and picked coconuts.
May 17th, 2012 at 7:18 am
Yeah, Obama doesn’t have that outdoorsiness that the Republican candidate does. Oh wait…..
May 17th, 2012 at 4:23 pm
Bet BillyRay could roast a dog….
May 17th, 2012 at 4:58 pm
Of course, I am not looking for Survivor Man skills in a candidate.
Of course I am sure this nothing but another swipe at anyone liberal as “not as manly” as their Republican brethren.
The right truly does believe they are more patriotic, tougher, brave, self sufficient and innovative than anyone that has the temerity to not agree with their views.
And it goes without saying that they are simply morally superior in every way.
May 17th, 2012 at 5:30 pm
“Of course, I am not looking for Survivor Man skills in a candidate.”
Yeah well, at least if we screw everything all up like you guys did we’ll be worth m ore than the guy who told us to check our tire pressure.
Hell, Sarahs skills alone could teach us all how to make it in a post Obama world.
Few hundred years ago that was the whole idea and point of this Republic.
Once the government got the hell outta the way and ownership was privatized did our settlers stop starving to death.
“And it goes without saying that they are simply morally superior in every way.”
Thats nice, now John will be convicted for actual crimes instead a nasty creep.
We are superior, its Conservative/Republican principles that got this country moving to where even God fearing men were wise and moral enough to separate the church from the state.
Its us who claimed individuality instead of the communal government mandates that deprived man of initiative. Even though we had land we starved and killed people with a system that repeatedly failed. Sounds familiar even today.
Sht, Indians were more help than moonbats.
We be eatin good n the morons will be ridin around in an egg lookin for a Starbucks with 60.00 muffins on their Ipods GPS.
I’ll take me a survivor over some pompous lying loud mouth academic any day

Fur rules !!!
It takes oil to make polyester and rubber shoes

As a pompous lying academic all I can say is you people crack me up.
Your view of the world and the certain Armageddon that appears to be slated for next Thursday must be a tough way to live.
What to do when the economy is in upheaval?
Adjust, there is always opportunity.
We are in a changing world economy. We need to innovate.
Austerity?
I always love it when my competitors start an austerity program. I know it is only a matter of time until they are out of business or for sale for ten cents on a dollar.
What to do when the world economy in unstable?
Borrow at historically low rates, invest, double down and attain market share. Then renogotiate and pay back the principla for less than the original amount.
Any trouble? Well that is why a modern military exists.
The wealthy did not save pennies to become affluent. They preyed on the weak and increased their holdings.
That is what we should do.
It is like a poker game. We still have a decent hand and some chips. Do not play small ball.

And if you think I am some bleeding heart liberal you are mistaken.
Incarcerating someone costs forty five thousand a year and additional funds for dependents.
I would rather simply give a poor family thirty five thousand for doing nothing.
Why?
Because it is a wiser use of capital.
I know, you work hard for your money and it isn’t right.
Yeah, that is true, but really irrelevant to the balance sheet.
I am not trying to make the world, or the U.S. specifically, a better place; just trying to reallocate resources to realize a long term profit projection.
May 18th, 2012 at 3:54 am
“I would rather simply give a poor family thirty five thousand for doing nothing.”
And they would go on expecting thirty five thousand for doing nothing!!!
May 18th, 2012 at 6:10 am
Lets use your money Buzz. Lets say that your neighbor becomes unemployed and as a grandiose gesture you give them 35k To get them through.
You notice after a year that they’ve done nothing to improve their situation and come to you for another 35K.
I know you work hard for your money!! Do you gine it to them??
May 18th, 2012 at 6:55 am
“The right truly does believe they are more patriotic, tougher, brave, self sufficient and innovative than anyone”
No, it is actually not just a “belief.” Self-reliance is a truth of conservative theory while wealth confiscation & redistribution is a tenant of liberalism. Understand why you think the way you do or you can’t be taken seriously.
May 18th, 2012 at 8:04 am
” would rather simply give a poor family thirty five thousand for doing nothing.”
Theres people and their siblings that have been doing that since Carter. Generations that provided nothing for themselves or their family.
Just how long do you think any country would survive on that mentality ?
I’ve never heard such a stupid thing in my life.
Whos going to pay all these people to stay out of jail ?
I’m dying to hear this one.
May 18th, 2012 at 8:08 am
“As a pompous lying academic all I can say is you people crack me up.”
I was talking about Obama.
“World view”
You have no business criticizing anyones world view when yours is to pay people to behave
May 18th, 2012 at 5:57 pm
“I am not trying to make the world, or the U.S. specifically, a better place; just trying to reallocate resources to realize a long term profit projection.”
The Chinese use a bullet and then bill the family.

““I am not trying to make the world, or the U.S. specifically, a better place; just trying to reallocate resources to realize a long term profit projection.””
Yeah, its called “industry that employs taxpayers”
But if everyone is paid 35 large a year to stay home and behave because you believe its cheaper or more efficient it’ll never fckin happen because too many will take advantage and not enough revenues will be generated to support your brilliant idea.
I feel like an idiot even having to explain this to an adult
May 19th, 2012 at 2:58 am
“…it’ll never fckin happen because too many will take advantage and not enough revenues will be generated to support your brilliant idea.”
This is why he uses the singular Micky.
He would give “a” poor family 35K…
Using a multiplier like x35 million would expose the idiocy of the idea right up front.

Somehow this seems the appropriate time for hottest Republican women of 2012.
