Mitchell Guist, who along with his brother, Glenn, is a star of the History Channel’s popular show, Swamp People, died today when he fell from his boat. According to the Assumption Parish Sheriff, Mike Waguespack, Guist was traveling with a friend from Belle River Boat Landing to work on his camp on the Atchafalaya Basin when he fell in his boat this morning.
The friend returned the boat to the boat launch, where emergency medical attention was received. When the EMTs arrived, Guist was taken to a Morgan City hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Fans of the program, which airs on the History Channel at 8:00 Thursday Louisiana time, know the Guist brothers from their uncanny ability to live entirely off the land. They hunt and fish for their food; this season, they have been trolling the bayou in search of cypress to repair their home.
Here is the video of the brothers introducing themselves for the program:

I never trust the staging of these reality shows. These guys who live(d) entirely off the land must have a TV set and a tailor who sells cool baseball hats and puts name labels on their pockets.

RIP Mitchell. What on earth will happen to Glenn living alone now?
