Forget about the great speeches given by Mitt Romney, Marco Rubio or even Newt and Calista Gingrich! Everyone is talking about the Clint Eastwood speech featuring an empty chair, representing an invisible Barack Obama. The stunt has even led to a new term, Eastwooding, as people post pictures on the Internet of empty chairs. Eastwood was brought in as a ′mystery guest′ speaker. A good deal of buzz was created and we were all eager to see Clint hammer away at Obama in true Dirty Harry fashion. But after a lame version of the theme from the film, ″The Good, The Bad and The Ugly″, we instead got Eastwood the comedian. Not that such is all bad, Clint is a funny guy. Who else gets laughs from mere facial contortions as he squints, glares and scowls? You ca watch the video of Clint Eastwood and the empty chair below.

Mitt Romney formally accepted the nomination to be the Republican Party presidential candidate last night. You can watch the Mitt Romney speech video to the GOP Convention in Tampa Bay, Florida, below where it is embedded. In general terms, it was a good speech. For me, any political speech that does not end in a Howard-Dean-like screech is flat. But Romney delivered the perfect ′check-list′ speech last night. His primary mission was to come off more warm, friendly and likable. To show women they have no reason to fear him, to show the Middle Class that he cares about them, and Independents that he′s an all-around good guy. Mitt hit the mark on all three, plus reinforced his position as a competent leader with good judgment and solid executive skills.

If you watch the video of the Paul Ryan speech to the GOP convention, available below, all you can say is ″WOW!″ The Vice Presidential nominee came out swinging, attacking Barack Obama and promoting why Mitt Romney should replace Obama. Ryan articulated in elegant and fundamental terms the defining differences between the Republican and Democratic agendas. While Democrats squandered their opportunity to bring about an economic recovery, Paul Ryan assures us that if Mitt Romney is elected, their administration will exercise responsibility, action and leadership.

According to many independent observers, the real war on women is being conducted by liberals this election cycle in an effort to bully them into pro-abortion stances and other anti-family views that are the antithesis of caring mothers in our society. Mia Love (video of her speech below), the young black woman who electrified the GOP party convention with a memorable speech is the latest woman to feel their seething wrath.

9:30 AM Wednesday…

Since last weekend, I’ve been clearing out the trees in our back yard, and moving everything that was movable outside into our car port. Unfortunately, the only two hurricanes we’ve encountered since we’ve lived here in Baton Rouge, Katrina and Gustav, came right at us. The prospective path of Hurricane Isaac was supposed to be west of here. It now is expected to hit between Baton Rouge and Lafayette, about 60 miles to the west. This causes a number of problems that I didn’t anticipate.

Last night in Tampa Bay, the attendees of the GOP Convention heard from Ann Romney and Chris Christie. The theme of Ann Romney′s speech as love and Governor Chris Christie talked about respect. While those inside the convention hall were elated, the question is how did their speeches play outside to the nation as a whole?

The tone of the U.S. Senate race in Massachusetts has gone from vile to violent as the driver of Democrat candidate Elizabeth Warren roughed up a GOP tracker cameraman. The incident took place on the island of Martha′s Vineyard this past weekend at a campaign stop. As Warren made her way to an awaiting SUV, her driver scuffled with a Republican cameraman. The driver knocked around the camera twice, sending it crashing to the ground. As the GOP videographer, who had filmed the public event, tried to recover his equipment, the driver threatened to call police and said, ″You′re messing with the wrong people.″ This is not the first time that Massachusetts Democrats have gotten physical on the campaign trail. In 2010, an aid to then candidate Martha Coakley knocked a reporter from the Weekly Standard to the ground.

Hollywood may be shaking from an earthquake caused by this weekend′s box office results which have the new anti-Obama documentary, 2016 Obama′s America, finishing 8th. The film took in a whopping $6.2 million dollars despite a very limited release on only about 1,000 movie screens nationwide. The film certainly is proving to be a better money draw than the rehashed version of ′Total Recall′. 2016 took in nearly as much money as the new action flick, ′Premium Rush′, which opened on more than double the number of screens. Produced by Rocky Mountain Pictures, 2016 reviews the first term of Barack Obama as president, as well as delving into his background, and speculates what America may be like after a second term. Needless to say, its not a pretty future! The movie ′stars′ Dinesh D′Souza, who travels the world to learn who Obama really is!
