George Will: Afghanistan Troop Pullout? Conservatives Split?

The Politico is reporting that conservative columnist George Will makes a plea in his next column to President Obama and military commanders to pull troops out of Afghanistan. This coming on the heels of Secretary Robert Gates not being able to answer in the affirmative if we are winning in Afghanistan.

July and August have been the costliest in terms of lives lost since the war in Afghanistan began back in 2001. The Secretary of Defense couldn’t answer yes to the question are we winning. And now George Will says pull the troops out. Not sounding too good right now for the home team. From Politico’s story:

Lockerbie Bomber Freed for Oil Deal?

Was there a deal between the British government and Libya to set Abdel Baset al-Megrahi, the convicted Lockerbie bomber and terrorist, free in exchange for a lucretive oil deal? Read more below, see photos and a video.

So much for a “compassionate” release! According to leaked ministry documents, the British government of 10 Downing Street, led by the feckless Gordon Brown, essentially determined that it was in “the overwhelming interests” of the United Kingdom that Lockerbie Bomber be Freed for Oil. Reportedly, the Britain-Libya Lockerbie Bomber Oil Deal was made after discussions between Libya and the UK over a multi-million dollar oil exploration deal had hit a wall.

CA Wildfires: Auburn, Oak Glen-Yucaipa, Acton, La Canada Flintridge-Station Fires (Map, Photos)

At this writing, the Southern California Wildfires threaten a staggering 12,000 suburban homes in the foothills in and around Los Angeles as well as other Southern California foothill communities of the Los Angeles National Forest. Because of the hot, dry conditions, flames are on the verge of reaching Mount Wilson, where 22 television stations and many radio stations have their transmitters. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger urged those in the fire’s path to listen to authorities and get out. Yet many residents refuse to leave, causing 3 persons to suffer serious burns. Two firefighters have also been killed when their vehicle rolled off a mountainside as they battled an intense fire near Mt. Gleason in northern Los Angeles County. The communities most affected by the Southern California Wildfires are: Auburn, Oak Glen-Yucaipa, Acton, Mt. Wilson, and La Canada Flintridge which is also known as the Station Fire with over 42,000 acres burned.

In a curious tale of strange bedfellows, Jenna Bush Hager, formerly known to all of us as Jenna Bush one of President Bush’s lovely twin daughters, will begin work as a special correspondent on the “Today” show. There’s a sentence I never thought I’d say; Jenna Bush, Today Show correspondent.

Muntadhar al-Zeidi Freed: Bush Shoe Thrower in Iraq (Open Talk)

Muntadhar al-Zeidi freed early? That is the word coming out of Iraq. He is the George Bush shoe thrower who posed as a journalist at an Iraqi press conference in 2008. You all remember, sure you do. Our nimble president deftly ducked the bullet while Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki of Iraq looked aghast and liberals everywhere cheered the insult to their country. See the famous shoe throwing video below.

The physical laws of the universe state that every action results in an opposite and equal reaction, or something like that if I am remembers physics studies. And so the Bush shoe thrower received a long, long prison sentence in a harsh Iraq jail where nobody complains about water-boarding or wearing panties on their heads. They have other more worthwhile concerns when the punishment fits the crime.
