Andy,

I disagree with you. he did the right thing. How refreshing it is to see a kid (shows my age) that has an opportunity to make money and does the right thing (IMHO). He gives the ball back to Jeter. Yes he has received some things from Jeter and the Yankees but not to what he could have made on the baseball. I think in the long run he will be better off for what he did. I am sure their are offers coming to him as I write this. Kind of nice to assume a good turn does not get punished. Except by the government that is,the IRS.

The kid was stupid for just handing over the baseball. He should have sold it on eBay or with some professional sports auction house. He probably would have gotten enough cash to pay of his $100,000 in student loans plus meet his tax liabilities.

What really sucks, what is the epitome of "SUCK"...

is that the ball was considered income once it touched his hands.
At what millionth of a second are we considered not a part of that commerce ?

This all may seem very petty and simple minded of me but that just goes to show how fricking cynical government makes me at times.
Who the hell wants to live with that kind of uncertainty knowing that basically these arseholes can just make up the rules as they go along everytime they need a buck ?
I'm sure we heard these collective sentiments in 1773 which resulted in all their goodies getting dumped in the harbor.

Its time to refresh their memories.
And I aint talking about standing in front of the Capitol with some stupid poster.
I'm talking pitchforks and second amendment.

Ours and others lives are seriously falling apart. I dont think anyone can honestly say they're/were doing better than we were 3 years ago, then again, I'm at fault for even expecting government to do anything these days.

Sorry, its a bad day to touch on this because the lady and I have had to perform some financial restructuring requiring sacrifice at ours and even the kids level. So.... I'm really fckin pi$$ed as I watch these guys posture and dick around with our debt ceiling etc..

Yeah, Micky, given the tax problems that my wife and I have had, I'm obviously not a tax attorney or an accountant. However, it seems to me that if they're saying something is income, and then you sell it, aren't you just changing the form of the income?

"Why doesn’t he just pick 15-20 games that he doesn’t want to see, and then put them up for sale there? He’d end up with some cash, could still go to 25 games plus all of the playoffs."

I was thinking almost the same thing, but, isnt that income also ?

These b@astards would tax your tax returns if they could.
================

Few years back I owed the IRS 600 bucks from a couple years ago. Hadda pay the interest and everything.
Later, I discovered that in my travels and transient life where I didnt file there were years where the IRS actually owed me money.
Did they pay it back with interest ?
no.
Theres no statute of limitations on what we owe them but they're only responsible to you for 6 years and on.
