It's funny that all you rightwing pundits don't seem to think that John Roberts was influenced by his many years as a corporate lawyer defending corporations running roughshod over human rights.

OH WELL!

I was surprised that Bond and Alexander supported here but I guess they had their reasons; probably political.

The rest are country club Republicans. Martinez is a complete disgrace and a quitter to boot. I am happy that the rest of the R's voted against her. Honestly, there were 10 more no votes than I thought possible. Historically, very few R Senators have had the guts to vote no on a Dem Pres's SCOTUS nominee. 3 R's voted against her and it was clear that she was a radical leftist.

I guess this will have to serve as progress.

I'm a little worried about this appointment. Being Cuban myself, I applaud them for finally appointing a Hispanic, as that was long overdue. I feel though that there were better options out there.

Sotamayor's financial irresponsibility troubles me. She does not live within her means, and this usually reflects irresponsibility in other aspects of her life. I wish her well, but I find that aspect extremely troubling.

Check out my blog about her personal finances at http://www.thedebtgazette.com/2009/08/justice-sonia-sotamayor-financial-irresponsiblity/

Rick

why do we move into the light? Is it solely because shes a woman? Is it solely because shes hispanic? Please enlighten those of us who are still mired in the 19th century as to why this represents a move to the light.

This is nothing other than a quote based pick. She is not the most qualified person to sit on the bench. Let me ask you something, given your logic wouldnt Janice rogers Brown have been an excellent pick for the court. She was both female and a minority, yet the left demonized her when it was suggested she be chosen for the highest court in the land.

So my question to you is this: Why is it sotomayor is a move into the light, but Brown wasnt when she was certainly as qualified, if not more, than Sotomayor.

Rick, the light you see is the lava in the volcano you just jumped into. But, hey! That qualifies as change!

With this action, we move out of the 19th century and into the light. Too bad many cannot see that.
