Arguing over who has a greater claim to neutrality is a total distraction from the issue. The saying is “be Switzerland” not “be neutral. Be Sweden about it.” She clearly made a mistake and lucked out that Sweden was a decent substitute. It’s hard to believe that people are even arguing over this. It’s obvious what happened here. This video sums it up in a humorous way:

I don’t think she was actually referring to Sweden of the WWII era. If so, did she mean to say one should be neutral when Hitler is trying to exterminate the jews, the Japanese bomb pearl harbor, Japan launches a full invasion on China, and Germany attempts to conquer Europe.

That is the most ridiculous set of circumstances one should remain “neutral” under. I pray to Xenu that she was just trying to cover her mistake.

How many exceptions are we going to make for the Swedes so we can call them nuetral ? So they didnt take up arms, big deal.
They were only nuetral by that technicality if they were selling iron for use in weapons while hiding or rescuing Jews and allowing troops to move thru their turf.
Seems like they played a big enough role to not automatically be considered nuetral by any consensus.
I wont call it nuetrality, I call it passive aggressiveness when a country asserts itself with an interest in mind in one way or another without violence.
They obviously took a position on some issues and acted on behalf of that position.
And they have really crappy food.

Sweden was most definitely neutral during WWII. From a political and military stand point they were technically neutral. That being said, they continued selling iron to the N*zis. They allowed the Naz*s to march through their country on the way to take over Norway. Following that, the Swedes, especially Raoul Wallenberg, were noted for saving thousands upon thousands of Jews.

They ahve a bit of a tricky WWII history. But Sweden has been neutral for hundreds of years, I believe its been about 200 years since Sweden was involved in a war. That is the epitome of neutrality. For better or worse.

actually there are many stories of people hiding Jewish people from germans

my mother worked for a french Jewish woman whose family escaped to italy during the war … obviously the italians were german allies at the time.

her family was caught and arrested at the border by italian soldiers who refused to turn them over to the germans, and instead let them go

there were many heros in that war, not all of them were our allies
