′Last Round′ – Sons of Guns Season Four Finale, Maybe Series Finale, Too?

In the Season 4 finale of Sons of Guns, entitled, ′Last Round′, the fate of Red Jacket Firearms seems to be in serious doubt. Will Hayden appeared to be losing it as his company struggles with more financial problems, such as being unable to pay invoices. Meanwhile, the local sheriff wants a new sniper rifle for his officers and what was supposed to be a simple project to customize a Remington 700 turned into a competition with Vince Buckles and his new gun shop, Mesa Kinetic Research. To further complicate matters, Kris Ford and his wife Stephanie give Will short notice that they need two weeks off to do an 8-state promotional tour for their new company. So how did it all shake out last night on the Discovery Channel? Is this just the end of the season for Sons of Guns or is it finished as a series? Let′s find out.

Free Donuts on National Doughnut Day 2013

Today is National Doughnut, or Donut Day 2013. It doesn′t really matter how you spell them, so long as they are delicious and FREE! Yes! Free doughnuts are available today at Krispy Kreme, as well as at Dunkin′ Donuts, where you must buy a beverage to get your free donut at participating stores. Historically, National Doughnut Day has been celebrated since 1938 during the Great Depression. Begun by the Salvation Army in Chicago to raise money, this tasty holiday was started to honor the women who served doughnuts and other food items to American soldiers in France during World War One. The first Friday in June is the day to get your free doughnuts. Along with Dunkin′, Tim Horton′s and Kangaroo Express are also offering free donuts with any purchase. LaMar′s Donuts, like Krispy Kreme, is offering one free donut per customer with no purchase while supplies last. Also, Lamar′s, along with Entenmann′s, are donating part of their sales to the Salvation Army. So buy, eat and enjoy since you will be helping others, especially storm victims in Oklahoma.

Zombie Apocalypse on The Discovery Channel

The Discovery Channel had a Zombie Apocalypse marathon on last night to showcase a new series, ′Surviving Zombies′ and a new documentary, ′Zombie Preppers′. Surviving Zombies: The Apocalypse Field Guide, focuses on a company, Zombie Tools, started by three men, Max, Chris and Joey in Missoula, Montana. They primarily fashion blade weapons, mostly swords and spears, to give zombie hunters ′an edge′, pardon the pun, to deal with the undead when the bullets run out. In Zombie Preppers, we look into the lives of 4 people who are seriously preparing for a zombie apocalypse, as well as several egg-head PhDs who have ′researched′ the possibility of such a scenario. One fellow, Dr. Steven Schlozman from Harvard Medical School, really thinks that a zombie pathogen is a potential threat to humanity.

New Salt Study – Low Sodium No Benefits

A new salt study seems to show that there are no health benefits for a low sodium diet. In fact, such may have a negative impact on a person′s health. Two studies were published in the JAMA Internal Medicine online magazine this week concerning salt intake. One from the Institute of Medicine, commissioned by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention claims that that there is no real reason to reduce salt intake below 2,300 milligrams per day. Although Dr. Brian Strom of the University of Pennsylvania is not opposed to a low-sodium diet, he does say, ″…there is simply a lack of data that shows it is beneficial.″ Meanwhile, second report which also appeared in this week′s Journal of the American Medical Association warns that there is still too much salt in restaurant food. Dr. Stephen Havas of Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine led a study by the Center for Science in Public Interest that looked at processed and fast foods from 2005 through 2011. Sodium levels only dropped 3.5% in processed foods and only 2.6% by fast food vendors.

Vikings Season 1 Finale on History Channel

Odin guide my hand, and my DVR as the History Channel aired the Season 1 finale of Vikings. The ninth episode of the new series, ′All Change′, had plenty of competition for us TV fans. AMC′s ′Mad Men′ aired its episode centered on the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr.. For you Dr. Who fans, BBC America aired its 4th installment in its 50th anniversary of our favorite Time Lord, featuring The Doctor portrayed by Tom ′The Scarf′ Baker. Tru TV ran two more new episodes of ′Hardcore Pawn′, which makes ′Pawn Stars′ look like ′Antique Road Show′ on Sominex. Naturally, for those of you who simply cannot get enough politics, the Fox News Channel aired a one-hour interview of George W. Bush by Dana Perino. Thank goodness for DVR technology so I could keep up with everything!
