Soft Drink Ban in New York City, Are You Next?

If Mayor Michael Bloomberg has his way, the soft drink ban set to begin March 12 in New York City should be expanded to the entire State of New York. Even beyond that to the whole nation, probably. A new Quinnipiac Poll shows that 51% of NYC residents oppose the restricting soft drinks to just 16 ounce servings. About 46% told the pollsters from Quinnipiac University that they like the idea, which makes sense since we all know that 47% of the people favor a Nanny-State government. Oddly enough, while Republicans disapprove of the law by 65%, African-Americans share their contempt at 60%. Democrats approve at 52%, the only group to do so above 50%. Could the Bloomberg soda ban be a crack in the armor of the Democrat strangle-hold on Black voters?

Michigan Right To Work – Violent Protests (Video)

Union protesters turned violent at the Capitol Building in Lansing as Gov. Rick Snyder signed the Michigan Right To Work 2012 bill into law. Steven Crowder, a contributor to the Fox News Channel, was among those assaulted as a group of union thugs tore down two tents occupied by women and handicapped seniors who support the new law. Video of the event clearly shows that Crowder was sucker-punched. Unions and their Democrat allies claim that the new law is unfair as it gives workers the option of joining a union and paying dues. They say it gives non-union workers a ′free ride′ to enjoy the benefits which unions claim to have negotiated. Of course, this argument falls on deaf ears when it comes to the 47% who pay no income tax yet enjoy the benefits of being an American citizen. Michigan now becomes the 24th state to have a right-to-work.

Will Marijuana Tourism begin after Pot Votes in CO and WA?

Will marijuana tourism begin now after the passage of the pot ballots by voters in Colorado and Washington state, legalizing the recreational use for adults 21 and over? Jennifer Rudolph of the Colorado Ski Country USA is watching what happens next before giving the ′green′ light. While the idea of skiing by day and bonging by night dances in the minds of potential vacationers, there is still that nasty Federal drug law to contend with. Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper is already trying to get a sign from Eric Holder and the Justice Department before moving forward. Meanwhile, in Washington state, two county prosecutors, Dan Satterburg of King County and Mark Lindquist of Pierce County, are already dropping hundreds of marijuana possession cases pending in the courts. So were Tuesday election results legalizing marijuana use the first step towards a nationwide reform? Or are we all just stoned?

Michigan 2012 Ballot Proposals May Help Romney Win

While most eyes are watching the polls in Ohio, the Michigan 2012 ballot proposals may give Mitt Romney enough of a boost to win the state over Barack Obama. The six state-wide proposals will prove to have a major impact on the economy and Michigan state constitution. Conservatives, Libertarians and Tea Party forces are spending serious time and money challenging most of the ballot initiatives. So while Ohio may have been crucial in past elections, the fact that Wisconsin already has a well proven Republican ground game after their recall election, and the in-state fight here in Michigan could wind up be far more important to the national election.

Scott Walker Defies Exit Polls, Wins Wisconsin Recall Election with Big Results

Governor Scott Walker easily won the Wisconsin recall election with results that defied data from the early exit polls. The buzz for the past few days has been that the battle between Gov. Walker and Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett was going to be a close one. Exit polls likewise showed the race being tight, but with Walker winning by 3 to 4 points. He wound up winning by more than 7 points. As did the rest of the GOP ticket, including four Senate seats. Walker becomes the very first governor to survive a recall election. Needless to say, the resounding results in favor of Republicans bodes well for Mitt Romney as Wisconsin now becomes a state in play that Barack Obama may loose in November.

Wisconsin Recall Election Results – Scott Walker vs Tom Barrett

Tuesday, June 5 is the date for the Wisconsin Recall Election for 2012, with polls showing results that may favor Governor Scott Walker over his opponent, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett. Jobs and the economy are at the center of this election, with unions lined up to throw Scott Walker out. Last year, Walker defiantly stood against the public service employee unions and ended the practice of the state collecting dues from union members on behalf of the unions. Some collective bargaining rights were also eliminated in order to dig Wisconsin out of a $3.7 Billion dollar budget deficit. Today, thanks to Scott Walker and Republicans in the state legislature, Wisconsin now has nearly a $1 Billion dollar surplus and a lower unemployment rate than the rest of the nation.

North Carolina Gay Marriage Amendment Passes

Voters passed the North Carolina gay marriage amendment by a 22-point margin, 61% to 39% yesterday. Known as NC Amendment 1, the provision makes North Carolina the 30th state to add a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage. Amendment One defines in North Carolina that ′marriage′ can only be between a man and a woman. The Tar Heel state already had laws on the books banning same-sex unions since 1996. But supporters of the amendment claim that the law was vulnerable, as a judge or a simple majority vote in the state legislature could have overturned it. Now, with the passage of the amendment to the state constitution, only a three-fifths majority of the legislature could reverse the amendment.

Sanford Police Chief steps aside in Trayvon Martin Shooting Case

Sanford Police Chief Bill Lee is temporarily stepping aside from the Trayvon Martin shooting case. The controversial death of a 17-year old black teenager in Sanford, Florida on February 26 has become a national story in the past week. The shooter, George Zimmerman made 911 calls as he followed Martin through his gated community as a neighborhood watch ′captain′. The details of this case are still sketchy and has many holes, but what we do know has caused a firestorm over police procedures and the ′Stand Your Ground′ law which Florida, and some twenty other states, have on their books.
