Do You Want to Keep Your Winky? Thank a Republican.

Last week we learned that a Swedish man’s penis was amputated due to a misdiagnosis, in part because it took five months before he was able to schedule an appointment at the hospital. When he finally got in, he was told he had cancer and would no longer have a penis. Nice, huh?

Then, at the bottom of the paper, called The Local (“Sweden’s News in English”), there’s a headline that reads “Swedish Society — Democracy, Equality, and Tolerance.” Below it is an ad for the Swedish Institute that claims Sweden’s

“economic and social system has lifted the country to one of the highest standards of living in the world.”

Interesting juxtaposition. A man’s most favorite tool was just taken away from him because he enjoys the highest standard of living in the world.

5 Arrested in Danish Terror Plot

Things are less rotten in Denmark thanks to police arresting five men suspected of plotting a terror attack. This is just the latest in a series of arrests that is sweeping through parts of Western Europe and Scandinavia. The five men taken into custody were in possession of a variety of weapons, including submachine guns equipped with silencers. Authorities say they were planning a Mumbai-style attack on the offices of the Danish newspaper, Jyllands-Posten, noted for their publishing a cartoon of the Prophet Muhammad in 2005. Islamic law prohibits any images of Muhammad, which led to widespread outrage world-wide over the cartoons. Head of Denamerk’s intelligence agency, PET, Jakob Scharf, described the men as being “militant Islamists”.

Lars Vilks: Swedish Cartoonist Attacked by Muslims Won’t Back Down

He’s no Comedy Central. Lars Vilks, a Swedish Cartoonist who drew Muhammad and was attacked Tuesday by Muslims during a talk at Uppsala University about free speech, is going to keep talking. If he’s invited.

But will Uppsala University, Sweden’s oldest and most prestigious institute of higher learning, have the courage to stand against brutality and violence and invite Vilks back?

Uppsala University officials say probably not.

“It’s nothing that we’re discussing right now, but it’s not very likely given how it turned out here,” university spokeswoman Anneli Vaara said.

In other words, free speech is only precious when it’s easy. But fight for it? Nah.

Adina Fohlin: Apoliva, Swedish Model Scares Viewers (Video)

Adina Fohlin is the Swedish model who has made a name for herself by scaring the living daylights out of everyone who has viewed a new ad featuring her. We have the video here for you to view, of course.

Apoliva is a line of personal care products for Apotoket, a Swedish pharmacy chain. They made a commercial for their products that has basically gone viral on the internet. That’s every company’s dream, I’m sure. However, this isn’t quite the way they expected to go viral, but hey, whatever works.

What happened is that they used Swedish supermodel, Adina Fohlin, singing a Swedish folk song. The visuals and sound are haunting. She is standing in the rain, snow, sun and lightening flashes. The ad is austere and, yes, a little scary. The 30-second ad spot ends with the tagline, ‘Apoliva – for Swedish conditions’. Okay, so I suppose the Swedes deal with rain, snow, sun and lightening. The problem is, the odd lighting and gaunt look of the model scares viewers. Seriously!

Naked Guys Dancing!

Having spent time in Germany, Bavaria to be exact, I can attest to the fact that there is something to the sterotype of northern European’s not having ‘rhythm’. I hate to say it because it sounds like such a cliché, and I certainly mean no offense to anyone from Europe or of European descent. But what is, is and this is, as far as my experience has shown.
