President Obama is Gung-Ho for Government

State of The Union Speech

Well, anyone who listened to the president’s State of The Union address tonight will understand a couple of basic things about what the president wants. He called for:

  • Higher taxes
  • More spending
  • More gun control
  • More government regulation

So, in other words, a larger, more intrusive government. He doesn’t believe we can cut our way to prosperity, meaning governments cuts, so that must mean he believes government can spend us into prosperity. The problem is, this is the first thing the president tried after taking office in 2009. If nearly a trillion dollars in new spending doesn’t bring about economic utopia, nothing will.

Obama – ‘No Problem With Spending’

According to an article in the Wall Street Journal, when Stephen Moore interviewed John Boehner about the Fiscal Cliff negotiations, Barack Obama told Boehner that, ″We don′t have a spending problem.″ Obama explained to the Speaker of the House that the cause of the National Debt and budget deficits stem from a ″health care problem″, which Obama claims to have solved with ObamaCare. When Boehner tried to convince Obama that Washington does indeed have a ″very serious spending problem″, Obama′s retort was, ″I′m getting tired of hearing you say that.″ So is it any wonder that Boehner gave up trying to talk any sense and negotiate a deal? And is it any wonder that Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid will attempt to act with Obama and continue to push for more tax increases?

Fiscal Cliff Debacle: Winners and Losers

So, the fiscal cliff ‘crisis’ is now officially over. Congress has passed a last minute deal that raised taxes on a few wealthy people without cutting spending in any way. After President Obama and Speaker Boehner, in 2011, failed to reach agreement on the ‘Grand Bargain’, which would have raised taxes but also cut entitlements, and after the House last month failed to pass Plan B, we can now get ready for the next artificial crisis in a few months, when spending will be examined, and the debt ceiling fight, which will see if the House will actually demand some type of deficit reduction measures to raise the debt limit. So, after this two month debacle we have all witnessed, who won and who lost?

Armageddon for the GOP

In the last week, we have gotten to witness the death throes for the Republican Party as a national political force. Following the Sandy Hook massacre, the only leaders of the party willing to state their views called for principals and teachers to carry firearms. Yesterday, House Speaker Boehner was unable to call a vote that was only symbolic, in that it would be a measure to raise taxes for those earning $1,000,000 per year in earned income. He couldn’t get a majority of his members to vote for this. Today, the NRA made it clear that the problem was that violent video games, music videos, and movies were prevalent, telling members of the Republican Party that this was the only cause of the epidemic of this wave of carnage sweeping the nation.

Boehner Prays for Mayan Apocalypse after Plan B Vote Failure

After the Ohio Republican, John Boehner lost his Plan B vote last night on the Fiscal Cliff, he may be hoping that the Mayan calendar is correct and that today will be the apocalypse. We′ll know soon enough as the end of the world is suppose to take place at 11:11AM EST, but my guess is that nothing will happen other than the arrival of the Winter Solstice. Still, it was an evening of Armageddon yesterday in Washington as Conservative and Tea Party House Republicans revolted at Speaker John Boehner′s plan to raise taxes on the successful. Once the debacle became clear that his threats of voiding subcommittee chairmanships was not going to succeed, Boehner retreated, pulling his legislation off the table. Instead, Boehner has now tossed the ball back to Barack Obama and Harry Reid, prompting them to consider earlier bills which passed the House months ago, to deal with the sequestration cuts and tax increases.

Obama Gun Ban Bullies Boehner Plan B Vote

Appearing before the White House Press Corps, Barack Obama spoke on gun bans and fiscal cliffs as he appointed Joe Biden to head a team to draft new legislation. So-called ′assault weapons′ are apparently in for more restrictions after the Sandy Hook School shooting committed by Adam Lanza last week Friday. The National Rifle Association will hold a press conference tomorrow to voice their concerns about gun violence in the United States and the future of the Second Amendment. Meanwhile, Obama has rejected the John Boehner Plan B vote to be held by the House of Representatives today. In a 50-second speech, Boehner announced that House Republicans will pass a Fiscal Cliff bill keeping tax rates at present levels for all Americans earning less than $1 Million dollars per year. Obama rejected the measure with a veto threat and Senate Democrats will comply with him and allow the largest tax increase in recent history to take place on January 1st, 2013. Is there a connection between a new gun ban, spending cuts and the Fiscal Cliff?

Budget Deals

Both parties have put up their own respective budget deals, each one forming a theme throughout. The Democrat’s want lots of taxes, and the Republicans want lots of spending cuts. In addition to their spending cuts, the Republicans close several loopholes and reform the tax code throughout. The Democrats, well, they just raise the taxes. In this post, I’ll be looking at each plan, and the history of the plans. I believe that John Boehner’s plan is superior, although I would support the addition of a clause that would require addition entitlement reform talks to begin at a set date, with forced cuts if a deal isn’t reached.

Fiscal Cliff 2013 plan from Obama a Joke

The Fiscal Cliff 2013 plan from Barack Obama must be a joke, considering how Mitch McConnell openly laughed at it! Yes, that is what happened when Obama sent Treasury Secretary Timothy Giethner to Capitol Hill to present the White House plan to Senate and House Republicans. Speaker of the House John Boehner has all but said now that the Fiscal Cliff talks have completely stalled. The problem is that Barack Hussein Obama does not want to do any spending cuts at all while he demands that tax rates be raised. Obama also wants to do another round of stimulus spending and wants the authority over the nation′s debt limit transferred permanently from the Legislative Branch to the Executive Branch. This as we face maxing out our current debt ceiling by February, if not sooner. Meanwhile, the clocks ticks away as Tax-ageddon approaches on January 1st.
