Wordpress Anti-Spam Method Changed on RP

Basically all spam control methods on Wordpress blogging platforms suck from the standpoint of effectiveness or user sanity, or both. Personally I hate Captcha phrases at the bottom of comment forms, but this site will try one of them starting today.

We will miss you, JoAnne Thomas

The RightPundits family is sorry to report the passing away of JoAnne Thomas. She died last night after a long struggle with cancer. While JoAnne would post comments and occasionally write an article for RightPundits, she managed our sister site, RightJuris, focusing on crime and justice related stories and issues. Those of who would attend our live blogs covering political debates and events will remember her fondly as Jo.

Comment Contest Winners for December (Open Talk)

Comment winners for December 2009 are below. As feared we fell short of the 3,000 comments required to pay winnings. Boo hiss!

That’s the way things go during a vacation month but I’m sure you will work doubly hard to make the grade in January. Hint: at the rate you are going so far, you will just barely make 3,000 comments in January so kick it up just to be safe.

On the upside we are able to make a $49 donation to Soldier’s Angels for your 2,462 comments in December at the going rate of 2-cents-per-comment, so all is not lost dear fans of Right Pundits.

Project Valour-IT: Marine of the Day, Marine Corps Birthday!

Happy 234th Birthday to the United States Marine Corps, America’s 911 Force and the “first to fight!” We, at Right Pundits, are proud to be on the Project Valour-IT’s Marine Team to raise funds for special laptops and other IT equipment for wounded warriors. The competition ends tomorrow, Veterans Day, but there’s still time to donate! You can find out more details and read about our Marine of the Day, Corporal Jason Dunham, below.

It’s well known that a Marine remains faithful to the mission at hand, to each other, to the Corps and to country, no matter what. Our Marine of the Day may be someone familiar to you. His great valor and ultimate sacrifice earned him the Medal of Honor – posthumously. Maybe you know his heroic story: Corporal Jason Dunham, only 22 years old, dived on a live grenade to shield his troops during an ambush near Husaybah, Iraq; dying from his wounds 8 days later. As President George W. Bush said in the MOH ceremony:

“On a dusty road in western Iraq, Corporal Dunham gave his own life so that the men under his command might live.”

Project Valour-IT Marine of the Day

It actually all began as a simple act of kindness to save an abused and injured dog from becoming one more victim in the war in Iraq. Read more below, see photos and a video.

Got Kleenex? Our Marine Story of the Day, for Project Valour-IT, has all the essential elements for a great story – a dashing hero, a faithful friend, a terrible war, love lost and then found again…

Project Valour-IT: Embracing the Suck

We’re entering the second week of our Soldiers Angels Valour-IT fundraising competition, which provides special laptops for wounded warriors. This year, Right Pundits is proud to be on the Marine Team and though we have a very narrow lead with Army breathing down our necks, we’re embracing the suck!

Marines Iwo Jima

Embracing the suck. That’s mil-speak for ‘The situation is bad, but deal with it’ – something the Marines are exceptionally good at. From Iwo Jima to Fallujah and Anbar Province to the Helmand River Valley in Afghanistan, the Marines have always been America’s 911 Force and the first to fight for us.

We’ve all heard ‘Semper Fidelis’ or ‘Semper Fi.’ Their moto of “always faithful” distinguishes the Marine Corps bond from any of the other branches. It goes beyond teamwork – it is a brotherhood and it lasts for life. A Marine remains faithful to the mission at hand, to each other, to the Corps and to country, no matter what.

There is no such thing as an ex-Marine.
