Obama on Mount Rushmore?

A recent poll of ten, count′em, TEN whole political and history professors from George Washington University show 30%, that′s THREE of them, think that adding Barack Obama to Mount Rushmore is a great idea. The Daily Caller reveals this ′impressive survey′ of GWU profs by The College Fix, some of whom actually think that Obama deserves a spot on the South Dakota national monument alongside George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt. Six of the professors are against the idea, with one either indifferent or still perhaps laughing at the notion. But as with all things in this day and age of social media, there is a Facebook page dedicated to putting Obama′s mug on the Mt. Rushmore National Memorial. They even claim to have some 800 ′likes′. Professor Paul Wahlbeck seems to think that Obama deserves to be on Mount Rushmore simply for racial motives. Prof. Edward Berkowitz agrees and thinks that history will show Obama to be the great social welfare president. Prof. Robert Stoker rounds out the three supporters, though he thinks it may be too early to start carving.

Dog Eats $500, Will Obama Make Good?

Wayne Klinkel has a ′bone′ to pick with the Federal Government after his dog eats $500. The Montana man claims that Sundance, his Golden Retriever, ate five $100 dollar bills while Klinkel was taking his family on a vacation. During a rest stop on their road trip, Klinkel told the Independent Record, the dog was left in the car alone and ate the cash. Using rubber gloves and some soap, parts of the money were ′recovered′ from stools left by Sundance. However, the official policy of the Treasury Department requires that at least 51% of a dollar bill be available to exchange for a whole bill. So will Barack Obama bend the rules and make good on the claim?

True Lies

You can’t swing a dead cat without hitting a fact checker these days. There are several widely used fact-checking sites in the US and we often see in-person and online debates punctuated with lines like “PolitiFact rated that as a big fat lie!” The problem with these sites is that, on the whole, they are opinion journalists masquerading as authoritative sources. To be sure, sites like Snopes.com have a long history of giving reliable information related to rumors and urban myths. But for Snopes, politics is a minor element of what it covers. For sites dedicated primarily to covering politics, there is neither a long or reliable history.

It’s quite possible that efforts like this are the mainstream media’s attempt to restore some of the lost authority and relevance they once had in the country. To be sure, public confidence in mainstream media reporting continues to drop year-by-year. What the media does not seem to get is the fact that, as the MSM has moved left, the American public moves away. The liberal response to this is to blame conservative radio and Fox news for “deception” and to call on the federal government to increase regulation in hopes of making them go away.

Salam Alikom Current Television

Current TV So long Current TV and thanks for all the fish! Or perhaps salam alikom might be more appropriate considering the low rated, hard-left station has just been purchased by Al Jazeera, a Middle East news giant owned by the government of Qatar.

For those who have never heard of Current TV (the vast majority of you no doubt), this was the television channel originally founded by Al Gore, who appeared often on various broadcasts to spout liberal nonsense to all 23 of its regular viewers. The MediaDecoder Blog of this NY Times had this to say of the now-defunct station:

Current was conceived in 2005 after Mr. Gore and another co-founder, Joel Hyatt, bought the small cable news channel Newsworld International. After several years in obscurity showing viewer-submitted videos and documentaries, Current tacked to the left in 2011 with the hiring of MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann. A year later, Mr. Olbermann was fired, but a channel made in his image remained, with Mr. Spitzer, Jennifer Granholm and other liberal pundits as hosts. But on a typical night last year, just 42,000 people watched their shows, according to Nielsen.

First, I think it would be pertinent to point to the fact that Gore rushed to close the sale to Al Jazeera before year-end. The goal of course was to avoid paying higher taxes. While Gore, along with the vast majority of other Democratic leaders, has many times decried those “tax cuts for the rich,” it certainly has not hindered him, as it has other wealthy liberal politicians, from enjoying the benefits of Bush-era rates. Of course, most of the tax cuts went to the middle class, as even President Obama has admitted, which is why those rates are about to be made permanent for 99% of the country. But I digress.

The real question is, what’s next for Al Gore after this epic fail? Rumor has it (from at least one unknown source) that Gore will take that $100 million (gained, no doubt, through the sale of Qatari oil) and start his own jam company, “Current Currants.” Okay, perhaps not, but you have to admit, it’s a great idea.

Neat Things to Remember

Tonight, I will present a short list of some of my favorite, interesting political ironies, with a short analysis. After the political ironies, we will look at the Al Smith Dinner, one of my favorite parts of the campaign:

“The Food Stamp Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is proud to be distributing the greatest amount of free meals and food stamps ever, to 46 million people. Meanwhile, the National Park Service, administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior, asks us “Please Do Not Feed the Animals.” Their stated reason for the policy is because the animals will grow dependent on handouts and will not learn to take care of themselves.”

The Right to be Thankful on Thanksgiving

Yesterday, after hours spent preparing our Thanksgiving meal, my family took a moment to bow our heads in prayer. With my in-law visiting this week, I was thankful just for the peaceful week we had experienced so far. Sometimes they’re the in-laws and sometimes they’re the out-laws, if you know what I mean! But I didn’t mention that in my prayer as we sat together around the table.

What I did thank God for was all the good things he has literally showered upon us in this past year. He has shown both grace and his mercy, even in the midst of some severe challenges for my family and for our nation.

God has been so very good to this greatest nation on Earth; the United States of America. God has uniquely blessed us here in this place, and to Him goes all the glory. Thanksgiving is about giving thanks to God, not to men. Personally, I think the celebration of Thanksgiving is not only a right, but a duty. To set aside one day to give thanks to God for our national blessings is the least we can do. Unfortunately, not all agree with me on this.

Pew States The Obvious – The Media Campaigned for Obama

On election night, Chris Matthews said out loud what many liberals in the media were thinking…

I’m so glad we had that storm last week because I think the storm was one of those things. No, politically I should say. Not in terms of hurting people. The storm brought in possibilities for good politics.

What the storm brought was the ability of the media to laud the president for doing basically nothing other than looking presidential. There’s no proof that FEMA handled the Hurricane Sandy disaster any better than it handled the Hurricane Katrina disaster, yet the press lauded the president for his “leadership” and mocked Romney for his work to organize a disaster response from the public. I guess you have to be liberal before you get respect for being a community organizer.

Barack Obama: Arrogance In Chief

In this modern age of technological advances abounding, cellphones that have conversations with you, amputees and paralyzed walking with robotic limbs, 3d televisions without goofy-looking glasses, and the “commercial skip” button…still there are times that I am found absolutely gob smacked.
