What Can We Learn from the 2012 and 2010 Exit Polls?

Exit polls are important because they look at actual voters, and the choice that they made. As the name suggests, exit polls are those that take place right after voting, in contrast to the barrage of polls that took place for the past year. Here, we will concentrate on the issues that were important to voters; we can then see how these issues helped frame people’s decisions. Hopefully, these polls will help our understanding of the issues that played a part in the voters’ choices.

Democrats Early Voting Edge a Myth Says New Gallup Poll

Reports of the Democrats early voting edge may be a myth if a new Gallup Poll is correct. Not only has the electorate swung some 15-points in favor of Republicans since 2008, but Mitt Romney may currently have a slight lead on Barack Obama. About 34% of Republicans say they either already have or will vote early for Romney compared to 33% of Democrats. Of the 15% of all voters who have already voted, Romney leads Obama 52% to 45%, which falls nicely in line with Gallup′s latest polling data of likely voters supporting Romney 51% to Obama′s 46%. There has been a marked increase in absentee ballots requested and some predict that 30% of all votes to be cast will be before Election Day, November 6.

Binders Full of Women abandon Obama, Not Optimal

According to the latest presidential polls, binders full of women are abandoning Barack Obama, which is not optimal as he′ll need all he can to beat Mitt Romney. In Florida, for example, Obama′s lead with women has evaporated from more than 20 points to just 3 points. Nationally, Obama, who had an edge over Romney of more than 11 points with women voters, is now down to one point. So despite all efforts by Obama and the Democrats to paint Romney as an evil man and Republicans in general waging a ′War on Women′, the scare tactics have all failed. Just has all of Obama′s policies have all failed.

The National Popular Vote Initiative vs. the Electoral College (Polls)

Since the Presidential election of 2000, where Al Gore received more popular votes than George Bush but lost the Electoral College, Democrats have bemoaned the idea that the Electoral College system is rigged against them. So, a number of states have passed laws that, if made law in enough states, would guarantee that the individual who receives the most popular votes in the country would win. This law is referred to as the National Popular Vote Initiative.

Who Won the Town Hall Debate? Odds for the 2012 Presidential Election (October 17, 2012)

Last night’s Town Hall debate between Romney and Obama was one of the more confrontational discussions that can be remembered in a Presidential general election campaign. The two contenders circled each other for much of the time, both literally and figuratively, trying to get the opponent to back down. After 90 or so minutes of this exercise, which of them came out on top?

Tonight’s Town Hall Debate Will Be the Most Important Event of the Campaign

Tonight we will get to see the two Presidential candidates compete in the town hall debate. The first debate between Obama and Romney began a degeneration in the incumbent’s lead that still hasn’t stopped. Now, Obama’s victory seems to be dependent upon his lead in the Rust Belt states. Since the last debate is supposed to be about foreign policy, I assume Mitt will tie each question to Benghazi and Obama will answer each question that he killed OBL. Most people will turn it off after ten minutes unless they have run out of Ambien. So, what do the candidates need to do tonight and how likely are they to accomplish their goals?
